    3. I'm trying to find my missing link. I'm pretty sure I am a descendent somehow of Joseph Primmer (Primer) born 1740 Birmingham, Warwick, England; died 1803 in Nassau, Rennselaer, New York, but I can't seem to find the connecting ancestor/s. The farthest back I have is my great-great grandfather, William Primmer born 1795 in Rennselaer Co. New York. Either he or his family then at some point in or before 1820 moved to Herkimer Co. New York, as this is the first instance of him I find in the census. I am trying to find which branch of Joseph's children he came from. I thought possibly Jacob, born 20 Feb 1771, because the dates fit, but I have no further information than that on Jacob. Apparently Jacob is either cousin of William Primmer (son of Joseph, not my William) and his parents were a Hannes Primmer and a Mary Pauwel, or, he is a brother of William and therefore also a son of Joseph. I can find no further information other than that. It seems all the descendants of Joseph ended up in Wisconsin or Iowa. Someone, somewhere had to have made a detour and went to Herkimer County. These are my folk. If anyone has any information on any of these people, I would appreciate it. Thank you. ,%%%, Joan Broneske --==% `%%%, unicorn@softcom.net |' )`%%, \_/\ @%%, __@@" %%%--"""-.%, /`__| \%% \\ \ / | /'%, \] | /----'. < `%, || `>> > || ///` /( //(

Wife > /mother was Hannah (FANCHER?). > Am I spelling "Flatts" correctly? I have seen it both ways. The Kinship "Marriage Record of German Flats Reformed Church" does not have a listing for any TUTTLES or FANCHERS. The marriages are for the period from 1781-1814. There are no TUTTLES or FANCHERS listed in the Kinship "Baptismal Record of German Flats Reformed Church" 1763-1795, 1811-1848, 1896-1899. In addition there were no TUTTLES or FANCHERS listed as witnesses for any baptism. I also check the Herkimer Reformed Church Baptism and Marriage Records and dis not find a listing for either family. 3. Prior to 1798, the Town of Whitestown (now in Oneida County) was part of German Flatts. In 1798 Oneida County was formed and Whitestown became it's own township. The towns of Frankfort, Litchfield & Warren were also part of the original German Flatts but were split off in 1792 (before your search period). Also be aware that the Town of Little Falls was part of German Flatts until 1829. Some of your research might need to be done there. The official records of Herkimer County were lost in a fire around 1804 (?) but, of course, New York didn't require birth and death registration until the very late 1800's. My best guess for baptism and marriage records would be to know the name of the church or try the Herkimer Co. Historical Society. If I can help in any way, let me know. Unfortunately, Tuttle & Fancher don't appear in my family tree anywhere. 1. Re: [NYHERKIM] German Flatts
    2. Hi David I would suggest that you go to your closest FHL (Mormon Church Library or LDS) and order films on the churches in and around that immediate area where you must have found your ancestors living. . Here is the url to look up the films that you would be interested in. Url is: www.familysearch.org/ Go to Place search and you will get films in that area. In the early days many of the churches were Dutch Reformed and a few were Lutheran in this Mohawk Valley Region. This is a good way to obtain a record and get a photocopy for my documentation at the same time. I have also been very successful using them. It takes quite a bit of time to go through these films and it is much easier if you have the date of birth (or approx.). But remember they sometimes did not get baptized for a year or two after the actual birth since many of the pastors were traveling from place to place and did not always come on a regular basis. So dates could show both a birth and baptismal record or just the baptismal record. Although you can get the film for $3.25 for 1 month, I usually get the film for the extended period for a $9.00 fee and the reason being is I have had to resend for the same film in the past as I got further into my research and found out some other Surnames that were of interest to me. This way I just keep returning to the local FHL library as needed and review the films for those additional names as I go along. I also find that you sometimes have to go through a film more than once to find your record especially if the records are handwritten or perhaps in German as some are in that area. But if you are not sure you can order it for $3.25 and than extend your time for only the balance of that $9. fee. The Library will have a reader that you can schedule to use. The volunteers at these libraries are very helpful and usually very knowledgeable on Genealogy. They have films of other records that might be of help in your research also. I find that their Census films are far more accurate than Ancestry. Com on the Internet. Some libraries have the books copied from these records with the same material in them, but I tend to prefer the film as the more records are transcribed the more errors can occur. Remember the spelling can show several different ways on the same film so look up your variations of the Surname before you start. Although there may be many variations of a Surname I want to have my document show as the surname is shown in the original records. A record is a record and should not be changed or corrected to what you might think it should be. Good Luck and enjoy the Family History Library which should be at the Mormon or LDS Church closest to your community. Call ahead and get the hours they are open. Regards Pat R

The early Herkimer County Deeds were taken by Oneida County when Oneida was formed from Herkimer in 1798. That is a good thing as the Herkimer records burned in 1804 and the early stuff was safe and sound in another county. The records for Oneida County are complete from then on, so you may have a good chance of finding what you are after ... IF If they bought land If the deed was recorded If the index is right If they are not actually recorded in the Mortgage books, or in a will you get the picture I am finding that about 1/2 of these early deeds were never recorded and that while many were recorded within a few years many were not recorded for some 20 years! I'm working on transcribing all the early deeds for part of Madison County and have very successfully used the records of early Herkimer, Oneida, and Chenenago counties in addition to Madison Co's deeds. I just got another roll of film in at the LDS Family History Center but they are closed for the holiday week and I am going to go nuts wanting to get back to work! Dan W. 3. Hi David, I would suggest that you try to find a copy of "Atlas of Historical County Boundaries" that was edited by John H. Long. It was published in 1993 by Simon & Schuster. All of the changes to county boundaries are listed. I photo copied the pages for Albany County in 1998. Parts of Oneida County were in Albany County from Jul 1764 to Mar 1772. Any deeds from that period would be in the Albany Courthouse. I do not know what the exact boundaries were in 1772. Between 1772 and 1798, the Herkimer County Court House would be a good place to start. I have looked at wills from 1792 there. > Oneida County was formed from Herkimer County in 1798. 1. [NYHERKIM] Signature Quilt
    2. ML Guindon
    3. A signature quilt and what a mystery it is. This handmade heirloom was made in 1854, before Philinda married Mr. John Henry Miller (son of Jacob Henry Miller and Maria ( Hyzer) Heyser) in 1855, my gggrandfather. They had three children, Herbert, Ida and Frank. Philinda was born in German Flats, Herkimer County, NY. She was the daughter of Daniel Clock (Klock) and Efau Rema (Rima). They had 10 children and eight of them lived to adulthood. Daniel and Efan's first three children were born in German Flats, before they moved to Parish sometime between 1834 and 1836. The quilt is eight by seven blocks. The near center block is inscribed "Miss Philinda Clock's Quilt? Parish? Oswego ? County ? NY ? 1854 " with a unique stitching, as is the rest of the other 48 names. First row Miss E S Watkins Miss P Sanford Miss C Fellows Mr. D Clock (her father) Mr. F L Clock ( her brother Lewis Francis who married Elsie Minckler in 1879 in Parish?) Row 2 Mr D Fritts (Dayton?) A M Beldin LW Dennison Miss JL Howard (Josephine?) Mrs. E Clock (her mother) Mr J Groves Mr SP Clock (Simon Perry, her brother) Row 3 Miss B Snider Miss M E Clock (her sister, Mary E. married Charles Phinney and husband 2 was Norman Fox) Miss P Minckler Mr W Ostrum Mr W O Comstock (William O,, married sister Katherine about 1850) Miss SC Goodenow Row 4 Mr E L Comstock Mr D Letts (David) Miss M F Johnson Miss J Fox Miss C Comstock Miss E Burrows Miss C Clock (her sister, Catherine) Row 5 Mr S S Sanford Mr E Minckler Miss S E Benson (her brother Erwin married Susan Benson in 1853. His second wife, Mary Benson in 1873) Mr J H Miller (John Henry) Miss C L Howard Mr J Laribee (Jacob?, married her sister Lavina) Mr D R Clock (David Romaine?- her brother) Row 6 Miss H L Comstock Mr E J Clock (Edwin J?, her brother Mr I D Allen Miss L Clock (Lavina?, her sister) Mr A Burrows Miss A D Comstock (Alice D, child of Wm and Katherine Clock Comstock) Mrs L Steel Row 7 Mr E Miller Miss H M Fellows Mr H Casler Mr H Kase Mrs E Finster Mr D J Clock (Daniel, her brother that married Hannah Wood in 1866 in Parish?) A few of these names were easy to guess at, but there are many that I don't connect. Are they school friends, neighbors or are they related in some other way? If you have ideas, please contact me. The quilt has always remained in the family and is still in very good condition. Philinda gave the quilt to her eldest son, Herbert L Miller (1856-1911). He passed it down to his nephew, Lynn H Miller, (son of Frank E and Blanche Treadway Miller). Lynn's wife, Lucille Courbat Miller Holmes still treasures it to this day and is on put on view in a guest bedroom.
