Hi Ken! You can request copies of pages from the microfilm through LDS after viewing the microfilm. I believe that like everything else it is quite reasonable in cost... in fact, I think it's the same cost as if the LDS center near you had the microfilm copier. Check with the volunteers next time you're there. I know this is the case, 'cause I used to volunteer in one locally that also didn't have a film copier machine. Hope this information helps, Lisa At 06:15 PM 9/24/02 -0400, you wrote: >Hi this is Ken >THANKS for your e-mail and help - Yes you are so right about the Family >History Center and yes we do have one here. Hi this is Ken THANKS for your e-mail and help - Yes you are so right about the Family History Center and yes we do have one here. The only drawback is not ordering the film that would be fine, but they tell me in order to copy the pages that I would need you need a copier and in order to get one they have to be open a certen amount of hours per week. And since they are open only 3 hours a week they are not able to get on and they will not allow you to take it out of their place. Hi Ken, If you are going to be in Herkimer, don't forget to stop in the Herkimer Library. It is about 2 blocks from the Herkimer County Historical Society. I am fairly certain that there is a copy "The Records of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Herkimer, in the town of Herkimer, Herkimer County, NY" in the library. Richard
I have that church record at home. What can I look up for you? Rather than 2 long lists -here are links to see what had been changed and new additions are to New York Archives Sep 21-22 http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GEN-NYS/2002-09/1032708687 Sep 22-23 http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GEN-NYS/2002-09/1032808247 Do you have any primary data files you can contribute to share with others? Primary Data = Bible Records, Biographies, Cemetery, Census, Church Records, Deeds/Land Records, History, Military, Military Pensions, Miscellaneous, Newspapers, Obituaries, Tax Lists, Vital Records (Births, Marriages & Deaths), Will Records including non-Wills such as Inestates, inventories, guardianships. The Herkimer County Historical Society has these books but you should also check out the Herkimer Library which is just down the street. They have a small genealogy room just behind the circulation desk loaded with good books. They own the church books you are looking for too, as well as a few more. The good part about them is that they are open after the HIstorical Society closes. The library system web site is www.midyork.org, from here you can check out the web catalog and search all books owned by all of the public libraries in Madison, Oneida and Herkimer Counties. By clicking on Member Libraries from the home page you can find Herkimer Library's web site that lists their hours. Ilion Library has a genealogy/history room that is open limited hours, you might want to call them to check when it is open and the Little Falls Library also has a small genealogy section. Hi, do you know if your Orrin Brown is a relative to a Mary Jane Brown? She married Charles Boyer. She was the daughter of Gilbert Brown and Permilla Satterly? They are from around the same area?
Hi - this is Ken I went to the index found nothing for the family that you asked about. However I did find this family on www.familysearch.org Hope this will help. ======== ----- Original Message ----- From: <NanSicotte@aol.com> To: <NYHERKIM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 22, 2002 3:15 AM Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM] REFORMED CHURCH > Judi: > > Sometime when you have an extra moment at the Herkimer Co. Yes I would be glad to do this to help you as so many have helped me. But remember it will be about three weeks before I go there. Judi: Sometime when you have an extra moment at the Herkimer Co. Historical Society Resource Center, could you check the book Marriage Records of Herkimer Reformed Church 1801 - 1899 for the marriage of Orrin Brown and Laura Cady in the early 1820s? They lived in Newport NY but maybe were married in the Herkimer church. I have not been able to find a record of this marriage. I was not aware of this book. Thanks so much. Nancy Sicotte
Are there any death records for Little Falls in the period between 1850 and 1860? If so, where might they be? I have no idea what church my family may have attended then. I have just learned from the 1850 census that John L. ADAMS, my gggfa, was then living with his son in Little Falls. Sarah, his wife, was there too, but by 1860 she was living with a dau in Philadelphia, PA. Therefore, I think John L. must have died between 1850 and 1860. Does anyone have any information about John L. and Sarah ADAMS? They were living with a son, I presume, Franklin, a bookbinder, m. to Juliette. Jane in AZ
Hi Ken The Reformed church records go back to the 1700's. They kept excellent records and prior to churches being built in the Mohawk Valley you will find some records in the NYC Church Records put there from the traveling pastor from the NYC Area who visited the Mohawk Valley. You find many records in the the Reformed Church on families who were not even members of that church but who were of the Protestant faith and just wanted their young infants Baptized. The LDS or Mormon Church Library has all these Films available for you to order at a small fee and they also have the readers so you can review them. They are very helpful and remember their Library at the church is open to the Public, but call them for their hours. Regards Pat R
Hi Kenneth I am sure that they will, but write them a letter or phone them ahead. Also do not hesitate to contact Kelly at the Fonda NY Archives in Montgomery County, NY which has everything (almost) on the entire Mohawk Valley Region. I find this the best location to research Herkimer, Schoharie, Otsego and Montgomery County NY. In fact I was up there a few weeks ago. Regards Pat R in Florida
