    3. Hi Guys, I also sent this to the Stevens-L list. I'm looking for the siblings of my 3rd great grandfather Ansel E. Stevens. Here's what I know, Ansel was the son of: Edmund Stevens b. July 22, 1777 Killingworth, Middlesex, CT. d. August 02, 1859 probably Herkimer County, NY m. probably Herkimer County, NY to Rebecca Bushnell (Bushall) b. January 26, 1780 d. June 27, 1859 probably Herkimer County, NY only child I know of Ansel Edmund Stevens b. October 02, 1812 Middleville,Herkimer, NY d. September 29, 1888 Dayton, Montgomery, OH b. October 02, 1888 Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio. m. March 25, 1843 Dayton, Montgomery, OH. the Widow Harriet Newell Barney Osgood b. April 25, 1818 Watertown, Jefferson, New York d. March 04, 1903 near Stetson, Florida b. March 07, 1903 Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio. My three questions are: 1. Where did Edmund die? Herkimer County, NY is my guess, but it's only a guess. 2. Who were Edmund's other children, and if possible dates of birth? 3. Oh yeah, anyone have a marriage date and/or place for Edmund? Thanks in advance. Linda Tope Trent lindatrent@zoomnet.net

    1. [NYHERKIM] Allen County Public Library temporary closure
    2. Daniel Barron
    3. Hi Everyone I found this on another site and thought it was important enough to forward: This is one of the most used Genealogy Libraries and many of us plan trips to do research there. Please pass along this information so that others will be aware of this. Regards, Daniel B. Closing Date Announcement Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana - ------------------------------------ The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library will close for relocation on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 6pm. The department will remain closed through the month of January 2003. This is to allow time to move all our materials to our interim location. The current building will be going through renovation and expansion. - ----------------------------- Will materials be available? - ----------------------------- All our research materials will be available up until Saturday, December 14 at 6pm. At that time the department will be closed so we can move all our materials to our interim location. When the library opens at that location, we will have all our books, microforms and periodicals ready for research. - ---------------------------- Why will we be closed? - --------------------------- Closing the department will allow us to move the whole collection at once instead of doing it piecemeal. This will ensure that the materials you are coming to Fort Wayne to use for your research will be available when you arrive, offering the full collection for our researchers. If we moved pockets of materials, what you needed for your research might not be available. By moving the whole collection at once it will ensure that the materials you are interested in will be available until we close on December 14th, and when we reopen in late January 2003. - -------------------------------------- Where will the interim location be? - -------------------------------------- The interim location of the Allen County Public Library will be at 200 East Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. Locally, it is called Renaissance Square. It is 5 blocks to the east from the current library. There will be limited free parking available; there is also a pay parking garage across the street and more than 150 metered spaces in close proximity. - -------------------------------------- What will the interim location be like? - ------------------------------------- One of the most exciting things about our interim location is that the genealogy collection will be a browsing collection. All the materials will be out and available for the researcher to retrieve them. Materials will not have to be paged; the shelves will be open. - -------------------------- How long will we be in the interim location? -------------------------- The projected time frame is 2-3 years. ------------------------- How can I find out more information? ------------------------- Visiting the library web site http://www.acpl.lib.in.us or phoning the department at 260-421-1225 is the best way to get current relocation information. This is a very exciting time for all of us, librarians and researchers alike. Our goal is to keep our patrons informed and continue to offer the highest level of customer service possible now, in our interim location, and in our newly renovated library. For further contact, please phone the department or email Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at cwitcher@acpl.lib.in.us or Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at skaufman@acpl.lib.in.us _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

    3. Good morning, Can anyone tell me where to find the oldest christening and marriage records for the Fort Plain Churches. I believe the records I am looking for are in a Reformed church. I suspect the archives at Fonda, but would like to know for sure before I make the trek. Thank you. Lida Fikes Perfetto

    1. [NYHERKIM] Dockstader/Van Alstine
    2. My grgrgrandfather Alfred Cross was married to a Nancy. I have a very old letter in my possession that was written to my mother from a cousin of hers that stated that Nancy's maiden name was Dockstader. I have an old family bible that belonged to the Cross family. It states that Nancy's birthday was April 30, 1812. I just found this entry on ancestry.com: Baptism Record of Caughnawaga Reformed Church, 1758-1899 Baptismal Date: 1812 Father: Abraham J. Van Alstine Mother: Mary Dockstader Item Number: 4277 Child: Nancy Birth Date: 30 Apr If this Nancy was born the same year she was baptized then her birthday of April 30, 1912 would be same as my Nancy who was married to Alfred Cross. Notice that this Nancy's mother's maiden name was Dockstader. Perhaps my mother's cousin was incorrect in stating that my Nancy's maiden name was Dockstader and it was really Nancy's mother whose maiden name was Dockstader. I am wondering if anybody knows anything about this Nancy who was the daughter of Abraham Van Alstine and Mary Dockstader. Does anybody know who this family is and whether this Nancy ever married and if so who to? Thanks, Kathy

    1. [NYHERKIM] Church St. Cemetery, Little Falls, NY
    2. Jane T.
    3. Does anyone have any idea if there are records, or at least an index, of those buried in the Church St. Cemetery ca 1850s? I have just learned that my gggfa, John F. Adams was probably buried in the above referenced cemetery. I think I was told that this is a Catholic cemetery. I would nearly give my eye teeth to learn when John F. died and if there are any records of who his parents were. The census says he was born in Ireland. Suggestions? Jane in AZ

    3. You didn't mention your mission to Herkimer. If you are of pre-Revolutionary heritage then Montgomery County Archives and Library is an absolute MUST to go to. It is at FONDA. There are other places of value depending upon your family's ancestral hisory, such as of New England, Palatine, Dutch heritage. It is best to mention surnames in messages such as yours with years of birth and death because others may better help you esp. if also related to the family in some way. randy ----- Original Message ----- From: Kenneth Colby Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2002 2:08 PM To: NYHERKIM-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM] Re: REFORMED CHURCH Hi - I live in Danville, VA - there are other Family History Ceneters around but by apt. only Unless I go out of state about 50 miles one way. 3. There are 73 cemeteries. I see 9 cemeteries for Little Falls area alone. Fink-VanValkenburg Gardner Herkimer Hess Holy Trinity Lower St Mary's Cemetery Upper Walrath The trick to find all cemeteries in a specific county in USGS' GNIS is: do NOT enter name at all in "Feature Name" field box. Enter "Herkimer" in county name select New York select Feature Type - "cemetery" send query. you get 73 cemeteries. I doubt it is complete because USGS is trying to locate every cemetery, including abandoned and family cemeteries.
