    3. [email protected] said: I have a Margaret Putnam born October 6, 1805 in Montgomery County. Her parents were John v Putnam born April 12 1776, Montgomery County, Her mother was Katherine Hanson born December 2 1782 also Montgomery County. They were married Dec. 5 1802. Their children beside Margaret were Victor 05/22/1804, Henry V 12/22/1806, Hannah 02/02/1810, Aron 10/06/1812, and Aberham 6/02/1814. Margaret married Peter Raymond Plantz: one of their daughters Rebecca Ann married James Bont Kested. This is all in Montgomery County. James and Rebecca later moved to Dixon Illinois. They are buried in a rural cemetery there. If this is anything you find I would really be interested because James and Rebecca were my mothers grandparents. I wish I could help you but I don't have any more information on my Margaret to even say which family she came from. My Margaret did not live in Montgomery Co. NY after her marriage to Jacob V. Shaft (that I know about anyway). Jacob V. and Margaret went to Shiawassee Co. MI in about 1847 where she died in 1861. If you more info that would suggest a link between my Margaret and yours, I'd be delighted to hear about it. Thanks. Judy Breedlove [email protected]

    1. [NYHERKIM-L] Surname Help Please
    2. Hello Everyone, this is my first post to your list. I have no direct lines in Herkinmer County but I am researching everyone I can find with the surname PLASTRIDGE/PLAISTRIDGE. I have been directed to the Herkimer Co. web page (which is fabulous!) as there are Plastridges in the Directory and in cemetery records in the town of German Flatts. Have any of you researchers come across anyone with the surname of PLASTRIDGE? So far all Plastridges I have found are related and I am not at all familiar with this line. I am interested in any Plastridges, thanks for your help! Kathy Karn

    1. [NYHERKIM-L] George Nellis Bike Trip
    2. Richard Hayes
    3. Hello All, One of my ancestors, George Nellis, rode a Columbia high wheel bicycle from Herkimer, NY to the west coast in 1887. He left Herkimer on May 24 and arrived at the Pacific coast on August 3. His ride was 19 days less than the only other ride. Does any one know which roads he might have used and what travel might have been like about that time? The bicycle that was used was on display at the Edison Institute in Dearborn, MI from 1915 to 1947. It is currently on display at the Herkimer Historical Society. Does anyone have any copies or photographs of any material that described the trip and the conditions which George encountered along the way? Since George was Editor of the Herkimer "Democrat" there must be some source material available which he wrote about his trip. Let me know if you have access to any of this material. Richard Hayes [email protected]

    3. I'm searching for information on the following elusive people: Dennis V. Shaft (War of 1812) whose wife was Diane Doty. Census indexes tell us that in 1810 Dennis is in Herkimer Co., NY, 1820 in Oneida Co., NY, 1830 in Madison Co., NY and in Onondago Co., NY in 1840. In 1850 he shows up in Shiawassee Co., MI living with an Alexander, Harriet and Henry Shaft (no relationship given but are probably his children). Dennis V. was born in either 1774 or 1784 (census vs. pension file) and had at least one daughter named Christina. I have no further information on Diane Doty. Also living in Onondago Co. in 1840 is a Dennis Watkins. On the 1850 census, Dennis Watkins is living next door to Dennis V. Shaft in Michigan. Jacob V. Shaft (b. about 1809/1810), married Margaret Jane Putnam (b. about 1820) in 1836 in Geneva, Ontario Co., NY. It said in the marriage record that Jacob V. was from Canastota, Madison Co., NY, and that Margaret was from Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. We have a lot of information on Jacob V. and Margaret's descendants but have never found any more information regarding where and when they were born or who their parents were. We also have no idea why they went to Geneva to marry. Even though Dennis V. Shaft and Jacob V. Shaft have the same middle initial, we have no proof of their relationship - but I'd love to find some! Any help on these Shafts, Dotys, Watkins and Putnams would be much appreciated. Thanks. Judy Breedlove [email protected] Researching: Shaft, Putnam/Putman, Doty, Drum, Sherry, Stone, Toby, Watkins

A few days ago one of the Pritchards (Merky) of Barneveld passed away. He was my third cousin (1 g.r.), buried in the Olden Barneveld Cemetery. I know the Prez. of your Society, a fella from the Stor Vellen, I remember his last name is Winne. Do you know William Forbes of Holland Patent, the Prez. of the Rome Historical Society?
