    1. Re: [NYHERKIM-L] SURNAME CAPS
    2. Christopher Lyttle
    3. Personally, I find that what is important is that the subject matter of the message be clearly displayed. Sometimes capital letters help with this, BUT SOMETIMES, ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS A LOT OF TEXT IN CAPS, THEN NOTHING IN PARTICULAR STANDS OUT AND IT JUST LOOKS LIKE SHOUTING!!!! The opinion expressed by CEE is valid, but not universally held. A contrary perspective is that surnames should be spelled correctly and that capitalization matters and can change the interpretation of the name. I have no desire to start an argument over this, but I suggest that everyone consider that if CEE wishes to lose the benefit of messages because they don't conform to her protocol, then that is her/his problem and not necessarily a reason for others to change their behavior. 1. [NYHERKIM-L] Surnames and Genealogy Etiquette - from Listowner
    2. Greetings list, I want to stop this thread before it gets out of hand. In the genealogy community, it is considered common courtesy and proper etiquette to capitalize surnames within the subject line and message of an e- mail. Repetitive use of capital letters is not suggested, as it offends some users and distracts the reader's vision from the surnames. If you have a comment to make about this topic, please direct it to me personally or to a specific user, not the list. Kim Branagan List Owner
