Hi, Could anyone please help me locate a contact place to get the Barker CD please? I am home bound periodically for medical reasons, this would help my research. On those, bad days. Any help would be appreciated. Randy and Shiela, thanks for your correspondence back and forth, the information on the sources that Randy named will also be most helpful. The local library here is slow, but excellent at trying to help locate books of interest. Thanks again. Dee
I'd be ecstatic to do so. You do realize, prob. more that I, that 1785 data is a bit hard to exhume. Give me an easy (early) one of New York state that you know were there, including lovely brides' names, if handy, and a related one you can't find as an ancestor. Sometimes the distaff side of the family will produce some surprising results. This is because, sometimes A (male) marries B whose B surname has been written up by a family tree climber and has included the family of A-B in the book. randy -----Original Message----- From: Roberta Zeiser <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, March 24, 1999 7:16 AM Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM-L] Barker CD- AVERY?? >Dear Randy? > >Where can I find Doris Rooney's THE DOCKSTADER FAMILY? Sheila -- The DOCKSTADER FAMILY books (four volumens) prob. can't be shipped, so the ploy is to ask the Interlibrary Loan Service from your local library for extracts, identifying the persons you are looking for. The Nellis/Nelles book just published last summer -or fall - is a dandy, and may be a bit scarce. The Compendium by Penrose prob. can be obtained that way (a loan of the book). Don't forget to look at Nelson Green's HISTORY OF THE MOHAWK VALLEY-- GATEWAY TO THE WEST. It is a rill dandy for history. It is a multi volume publication (I think four), and did splendid things for we poor compilers at the end of (our rope) 20th Century. Nelson Green's book will keep you enthralled. For rilly ancient stuff, don't forget Jephtha R. Simms, History of Schoharie County..." If you like to read history of them thar days, complete with Blood and Thunder, with interesting tales of our ancestors -- this is excellent. The book doesn't confine its data of just Schoharie County. If your husband likes to read about the Revolution, best you use the books first because it is pretty interesting. This comes in two volumes, and obtainable from Heritage for about $40, but probably available via the Interlibrary Loan Service. Ladies Lib is hinted at in the book tellling about an Indian raid when the wife used an axe to repel guns thrust into their home's sally-ports. These are ladies few ever dreamed were our grandmothers. They had no TV, but things were pretty lively then, too. I think the Interlibrary Loan Service is better than an LDS tape, but even that way is pretty nice to have available. The Interlibrary Loan Service is usually a bit slow, but their service is nothing to sneeze at. randy -----Original Message----- From: Sheila Kenny <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, March 23, 1999 9:02 PM Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM-L] Barker CD- AVERY?? >Thank you for writing Randy. >Do you know where the books you mentioned might be available? Dear Randy? Where can I find Doris Rooney's THE DOCKSTADER FAMILY? Could you do a lookup for me, please? Thanks, Paul. I'll check out the Hotalings/Houghtalings/Hoogtalings/etc in Albany County. Mary
Thank you for writing Randy. Do you know where the books you mentioned might be available? Can they be ordered on microfilm from the LDS? I live far from any major city with a large library. Sheila
Sheila, have you looked at Doris Rooney's THE DOCKSTADER FAMILY? Vol. four lists over forty AVERYs, the latest NELLIS/NELLES lists three, Marylyn Pemrose's COMPENDIUM lists two. If you have a strong back Rooney's volumes might be a good place to begin. randy -----Original Message----- From: Sheila Kenny <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, March 23, 1999 7:31 PM Subject: [NYHERKIM-L] Barker CD- AVERY?? >I would buy this CD in a flash if there was any AVERY listed prior to 1785. >Can anyone help me? Does anyone have any information about EUTERMARK(S)/EUTEMARK/UTTERMARK(S)/UTERMARK(S) in Tryon, Montgomery, Schoharie, Otsego or Fulton Counties? Family members moved back and forth among these counties from the mid-eighteenth century to the present. Is this family on the Barker CD? Thank you for any help you can give. Although I have a lot of information I have some complete deadends so there are major gaps. Thank you in advance for any help you might provide.
I would buy this CD in a flash if there was any AVERY listed prior to 1785. Can anyone help me? This has been a most elusive line. Thank you Sheila BC Canada
Sorry, but no Cline/Kline's. Most of the information is for ancestors born prior abt. 1820. Yes, there are 3 pages of BERNER info. on the CD. They show up in Schoharie but noie in Herkimer or Montgomery. The earliest is Conrad b-Abt. 1715 immigrated from Switzerland. Hope this helps. Hi Beth, I don't have a lot of info on Clines..just that a Cline family lived next to me on West Clark Street (50's and 60's) in Ilion and Bob Cline was one of my best friends. He still lives in Ilion as far as I know...I visited him a decade ago...he lives in a trailer park and would be about 52 years old. He had a sister and I don't remember any other names...and they lived by us for a very long time. Not much. Karen, I, too, would be interested in purchasing the Barker info, but would like to see if my elusive CLINES are on there. Am particularly looking for Charles CLINE b 1855 in NY (not sure if in Montgomery Co. though). He married Sara HOVSON (HOFFMAN?) in Johnsville, Montgomery Co. in 1878. In 1880 cenus, it shows Charles as having been born in NY & father born in NY, so at this point am checking Montgomery Co., since Charles & Sarah were married there. Thanks for any assist! Mary, This may/may not be of any help, but I was just recently researching Van Allen families in Albany, and was looking at land ownership maps of 1859. There were several Houghtailing families there, as well as Winne families that married into the Van Allens. If you have not investigated the records of Albany County, I feel you may find some answers there. I saw variations of the name as Hogtailing, Hoogteling, Houghtailing, etc. Paul Horvat
I'm researching BULMAN/BULLMAN and HOTALING/HOUGHTALING in Montgomery County. My great-great grandfather, Asa Bullman, married Margaret Houghtaling in the Dutch Reformed Church in Fonda in 1833. They subsequently moved to St. Joseph County, MI. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Mary Myers

Bill, Hope you don't mind me asking this, but do you recall if you have seen the Grosvent/Grosfent/Grossent, and Berner on the CD of Bill Barker.
