I'm trying to track down any type of information on my greatgrandparents and my grandfathers siblings. From what I've been told by my father that all seemed to have spelled their last names differently and it's making the search very difficult. If any of the following sounds familar to anyone please contact me. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. 1. Anthony (Antoni) Skabowski b.Poland d. NY married Antonette ? b. Poland d. NY summer of 1957 (family supposedly had a farm somewhere in Upstate NY)
See, it's working, I have confused you already! The Rasbach book does NOT list a second wife for John. children are: Catharina Elisabetha b. 1823 Mary Aleida b. 1824 Theodore d. 1826 age 4 months Sophia Elisabeth b. 1827 James Adam b. 1829 John Edward b. 1830 Sarah Sopia b. 1832 These first seven children were born in Herkimer and have more extensive date information and documentation. Theodore Delong Rasbach b. 1834 in Amsterdam (which is more like Schoharie county not Jefferson) Rosetta b. 1836 Charles A b. 1837 William B b. 1839 Thadeus b. 1841 Wallace H b. 1843 These last six children were born in Amsterdam according to the book. Rosanna Delong's parents were James Delong and Adelaide Krankheit, Adelaide was the daughter of Henry Cronkite who was the son of James Cronkite (b. Holland). This is the marriage that I thought was the second marriage of John M from the way the book read at first. Marks Rasbach is listed with only ONE wife. Just trying to help: IF, you don't place your surnames in CAPS [that is what in this mad day rush they look for, making research much easier]; some viewers won't read them, then your effort will be wasted. To catch the researchers eye, use CAP in both the 'Subj" and the body; only for surnames. Some people when they can't recognize the protocol, won't even bother with reading that posted. CEE : - ))
Judi, you're a lady after mine own heart. The Rasbach book may have missed the second marriage of John M. Rasbach, son of Marks Rasbach. The first marriage of John M.(1801-1854) to Rosanna DeLong (1803-1849) resulted in the seven chilidren. Theodore was Rosanna's last child as you have noted. John M. married the second time to Eliza Devendorff (1818-1855/1856) and seven children resulted from this marriage, Do I understand correctly that the Rasbach book doesn't list this event ? Perhaps it was because John M. remarried and migrated to Jefferson County, NY just after, or just before his second marriage. Marks, father of John M., married Elizabeth Diefendorff (1776-1827). She lived about five years after Marks (1769-1822) died. I wasn't aware of a second marriage of Marks. It must have been his first. Will you send details? Incidentally, Elizabeth Devendorff is my 3rd great grandaunt, Eliza Devendorff, her niece, and my great grand aunt, John M., my first cousin, four generations removed. Rosanna's sister, Hannah, married John W. Devendorff, my 2nd great grandfather. John W. and Hannah were the parents of Eliza Devendorff. It gets stickier with the son of Eliza and John M. Rasbach, but enough for now. Hello All, Just a note of caution to those of you who may rely on William Barker's recent CD. Use his information as a starting point and verify all of his information. He published his "Early Families of Montgomery County" on diskette in 1990. While the Nellis/Nelles book was being compiled by Kathleen Mc Laughlin and many others, Barker was informed about several errors in his material. This applied to both the Nellis & Klock families. I do not know if this information was corrected in the current CD version. There is also a project under way to combine all of the Zimmerman Books into one large genealogy database. Ray Keuhne from Utah is coordinating this effort. Richard Hayes [email protected]

Kate & List: I have a James NELSON, probably born NY State, he married an "Unknown KLOCK." They had a son born June 21, 1877 in Lapeer, Lapeer County, MI named James Wesley NELSON. He married Nettie Mae HERRICK and they have ties to Davison, Genesee County, MI and to Richfield Twp, Genesee Co., MI. Michele <[email protected]> replied to a recent response by RLHerrick to a different posting and indicated that "Unknown Klock" may have been Annie Linfoot KLOCK or Annie Klock LINFOOT, but she was not sure. It seems reasonable that this could be the same family of KLOCK. The Richfield Twp area was not all that greatly populated in the early 1800s. Do you, or any one else, recognize any of those noted above? Some of the surnames that I am working on for that area include: HERRICK, ALLEN, BAKER, BLACKMAN, BULLIS, COONEY, HALL, HEWITT, KING, LANE, McNAMARA, NELSON, PATTASON, PATTERSON, PINGEL, SEATON, WORDEN, YOUNG. I recently purchased Barker's CD, and there is quite a bit of information on the KLOCK family that I have not entered. One of these days (i.e., months), I will get Barker's data entered into my database. In reviewing the report shown below, I notice an unlikely relationship: Did Jacob Klock actually married his NIECE Catherine NELLIS. Is this correct? In 1725, he obtained 650 acres, Lot #12 of the Harris Patent, land held in the family of Christian Nellis until about 1887, when it was sold to a Nellis relation. Christian was listed as a freeholder at Canajoharie in 1763. Jeptha R. Simms, the 1882 author of Frontiersman of New York (2 vols., Geo. C. Riggs Publisher, Albany, NY), classified Christian Nellis as the head of one of the wealthiest and "best" families in the Palatine district; that he was a patentee of Freys Bush land in 1767. Simms also indicated that Christian's house was not far from Fort Klock, was strengthened, and called Fort Nellis. Smith indicated that the structure, which may be the Nellis Tavern, was a farm house constructed by Christian Nellis in 1747. Remaining in the family, a second story addition and a wing were added to create a tavern and store in 1790. The tavern is now on the National Register of Historic Places and is being restored. Frederick BELLINGER, b. Abt 1773, New York, d. 1850-1860, Richfield Township, Genesee Co., MI. any connection out there??
For everyone's info. When Rex passed away we did not know for several weeks. His family did not acknowledge letters from anyone. No more email address, no more phone #. I have no information about what Rex had as we were searching only one line together, our Stevensons, in another county. So whatever you find at the FHC is Rex's Legacy and there is no more. We did not share the same Mohawk Valley lines. I don't have his GEDCOM or any information at all about his Mohawk Valley lines. He had me delete his surnames from our surnames list prior to his passing. As I said, his family did not acknowledge our regrets. I've received many inquiries on where people can get the Barker CD. Here's the info. that I used when I bought mine in Jan. >Bill Barker >25 Wheeler St. >Shelton, CT. 06484 > >include a check for $20.00 (that includes shipping & postage) made out to >Bill. Ask for the NY_HMS Families on CD. All 3 counties are on the CD >Herkimer/Montgomery/Scoharie. You should get it about 3 weeks later. >
There are 13 children listed for him with the two wives, the first seven born Herkimer, last six in Amsterdam. That is from the Rasbach book. Only three of them are listed with further information about decendents, James Adam, John Edward and Charles A. 1830 NY Census Index Merrill, George NY ONONDAGA CO. POMPEY 272 1830 1830 NY Census Index Merrill, George NY BROOME CO. SANDFORD 059 1830 David Joseph Preuss m. Maria Glock of Manheim; widow, nee Rasbach Feb. 11, 1816. His remark says Koenigsberg, Germany. Witnesses Joe Joseph Rasbach & Marcus Fults. Varient spellings are Klock, Glok, Glock, Clock or Preuss may be Pross. The Rasbach book is probably still available through the Historical Society. See the part of the Herkimer/Montgomery Genweb site that talks about the society. I think Martha has a list of books available from them.
