Hi Joe: There's no need to apologize whatsoever. Your caution is warranted as I should have introduced Judy to the list myself back in the winter. Judy is a dynamo and a fine manager, carrying on the tradition of quality and openness to new ideas of the founder of the site, Rex Stevenson. (No, she's not related to Rex.) >I apologize for being wary about giving information to a person who "said" >that they were with your website. I now know better. Many people are coming >to her defense. I did not mean to start a war, on me. My intentions were >purely innocent. Please will everyone and Judi forgive me. Mea culpa, Mea >culpa, Mea culpa! If you've visited Herk/Mont GenWeb in the last few days you'll see an announcement of a site renovation. Our site is 2 1/2 years old now and has become difficult to use and time consuming to maintain and update. Because it's a site created by visitors it's the largest site in the NYGenWeb system, and a cause to be proud of thanks to all your sharing with each other. Briefly, if I can :-), I need to tell you all our plans to accommodate future growth. 1) The data on Herkimer/Montgomery Counties GenWeb is organized by town, cross-indexed by some major sections. Behind the scenes we'll be moving material into subdirectories, which will allow us to make changes and add new material in less time. Because we'll be moving most of the files, their individual URLs will change. If you have specific pages bookmarked, chances are that the pages will have new URLs by June. So far Judy, Lisa Slaski (towns of Ohio/Webb/Wilmurt editor) and I have moved Ohio, Webb/Wilmurt, Stark and Schuyler material. A file movement will not be reflected in the search engine until at least a week, after Rootsweb re-indexes the site. This movement will save us countless maintainance hours better spent on preparing new material. 2) We're the only double-county site in the US, which will not change. However, we'll be separating the two counties by moving most of the Montgomery files over to our server space at ~nymontgo. We'll eventually have two large sections called "Just for Herkimer" and "Just for Montgomery", within which will include the town tables currently on the front page of the site, as well as portions of some other sections. Articles pertaining to both counties joint history will be directly accessible from one location. 3) After all is moved and new sections are set up we'll be changing the graphics and navigation of the site. Rest assured that all features will still be fully accessible by Netscape 3.0 and earlier versions of IE. 4) In anticipation of what will be a bigger and better Herk/Mont, Judy is asking now for more input for the Montgomery offerings on the site. The primary reason there is more for the Herkimer half is that over a third of the Herkimer towns have been "adopted" by town editors. What's a town editor? A researcher with a strong interest in a town and willingness to chat with/advise fellow town researchers and prepare at least 3 or 4 items a year for their town. Montgomery County has only one town editor. If you're interested in being a town editor please email Judy or me. If more than one person is interested in a town, don't we wish!, we'll figure something out. When a town has an editor it has more information. As a bonus, the town editor tends to make great personal contacts. :-) You don't have to know HTML or have web development skills to be a town editor. And you don't have to be a town editor to contribute to the site. Judy was starting a drive for just about anything similar to what we already have on the site that would help your fellow Montgomery County researchers. We'd like to have a nice splash of Mont Co. items to go on line after the new site rolls out. A few items are in progress. There are a few restrictions that all GenWeb county coordinators have to abide by - material must be out of copyright or have permission of authors/heirs/publishers if more recent than 1924 and no GEDCOM's (unless incorporated into a larger, original article). I have my own personal policy that material must be edited to protect the privacy of the living, no mother's maiden names linked to the living, and sources need to be credited. No item is too small. We especially welcome obits and wills. Because Montgomery County was once much larger, we encourage that material pertaining to what is now Fulton County be sent to our colleague to the north, Jeanette Shiel, new coordinator of Fulton County GenWeb, so that her site will grow. Pre-Revolutionary War material should be donated to Tryon County NYGenWeb. Items not pertaining to our county - there are 60-some other NYGenWeb coordinators who need your contributions. The list of all NYGenWeb counties is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nygenweb That's about it. It's a big undertaking and there will be some inconvenience as URL changes will be made on an almost daily basis. There won't be any major visible difference until May, after all the files have been moved. In the meantime, if you have email address changes, updated info to what's already on line, or would like to donate items, please contact Asst. Coordinator Judy at [email protected] during the month of April. Thank you, everyone on this list who's ever helped with Herk/Mont. You did it! Martha S. Magill Coordinator Herkimer/Montgomery Counties NYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyherkim/ email:[email protected]
Joe, You are forgiven. I understand your caution and I feel the same about those who use freely given information for person gain. As I said in my message asking for donations for our Montgomery Co. part of the GenWeb site, full credit is given to each contributor and if you want to give us a short description of your research interests, we'll be happy to post it as well. You just never know what contacts you might make this way. We are looking for all types of material relating to Montgomery Co. If you wish to contribute, please let Martha or me know. We hope all you searchers out there with Montgomery County material will be willing to send us the tidbits you have collected. Joe, you said you had some information so we hope to hear from you. Thanks to all of you for anything you can provide that we can put online. Judy Breedlove Assistant Coordinator Herkimer/Montgomery Counties, NY GenWeb [email protected]
Judy is Asst. County Coordinator of Herkimer/Montgomery Counties NYGenWeb and has been since November. Her name is posted at the bottom of the site with all other site staff. If there are any questions you can verify such with Kim Myers, NYState GenWeb Coordinator. Judy is my righthand person and will help take the site into the future. The site could not grow if not for her assistance. Martha S. Magill Asst. Martha: I apologize for being wary about giving information to a person who "said" that they were with your website. I now know better. Many people are coming to her defense. I did not mean to start a war, on me. My intentions were purely innocent. Please will everyone and Judi forgive me. Mea culpa, Mea culpa, Mea culpa! I guess I was just too cautious when I wrote that e-mail. Joe S. :-(
Hello, I'm looking for any information on the AUMOCK family. Listed in the 1790 census for Mohawk Town, Montgomery Co., New York: Thomas AUMICK, with 2 males under 16; and 2 females. Abraham AUSMUCK, with 3 males under 16; and 3 females. William AWMUCK, with 1 male under 16; and 2 females. According to Revolutionary War Pension Abstracts, Abraham AUMOCK moved to Montgomery Co., New York after the war from Hunterdon Co., New Jersey. Thank you, Brad Aumick [email protected]
We are researching the Jordan Gray Family of Little Falls, NY. Most of the information we find is supplied by Rex. It is just enough to get our attention. Today, we were on the LDS site, found George J. Gray, maybe Jordan's dad. When we checked the source it was Rex. Is there anyone on the list that was partnering with Rex in his research, or knows who was. Errol and Valerie Cross

Judy: There are those of us who very much would like to cooperate with you in your endeavor to expand the knowledge of the NYHERKIM-L Montgomery URL. Please don't get me wrong but we all know that there are people out in the world who would use this information for their personal gain and I don't mean knowledge of their families. Sheila Sorry, didn't realize you weren't from New York. It's in New York State. The area is west of Albany, east of Utica and Herkimer and a bit north if you're looking at a map. The restaurant was one my grandparents used to frequent in the 50's and as I said it was open until a year or so ago. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: Sheila Kenny <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, March 26, 1999 8:56 PM Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM-L] Barker CD- AVERY?? ><look north of Rte 29a about five miles on Rt 10 (heading towards >Speculator)> >Sandra > Thanks for writing. Hi, (I didn't send this in the correct format, so here is the corrected version) (sorry) Is anyone working on (or have information on) the following family lines: CRAMER, CROMER, SMITH, WEAVER, CLAUS, CURTIN, KREMS? This is the earliest information that I have so far on them: Christian CRAMER Married 18 Sep 1787 in the Stone Arabia Dutch Reformed Church, Stone Arabia, NY (Spouse) Margaretha KREMS (no info) Peter CROMER Born 14 Aug 1791 Palatine, NY John SMITH Born 1815 Palatine, NY Died Apr 1893 Palatine, NY Johannes WEAVER Born 1760 German Flatts, Herkimer County, NY Married 1792 Alabny, NY Died Oct 1853 Oppenheim, Fulton County, NY (Spouse) Sarah CLAUS Born 1770 Died after 1850 (Sarah's Parents) Father: Peter CLAUS (no info) Mother: Mary CURTIN (no info) (Johannes WEAVER's Father) J. Nicholas H. WEAVER (no info) (Johannes WEAVER's Grandfather) Hendrick WEAVER (no info) (Johannes WEAVER's Greatgrandfather) Nicholas WEAVER (no info) Thanks, Steve Cromer [email protected]
I don't feel confused as exasperated that the RASBACH book is incomplete. Of course, this is my problem. I know a Dr. Chamberlain who will feel that his great grandfather has been neglected. The story is according to family lore. According to Dr. Chamberlain, the sons of John M. and Rosanna went to Illinois to join the railroad, Is this consistent with your data? The Doctor has letters from his grandfather's step brothers from Illinois. I am aware of the James DeLongs as they were my 3rd great grandparents. I have completed dates below for six of John's first children, hoping you can do so for his last six. I also have an EDWARD, born ca. 1846, but have no substantiating documentation. many thanks. randy -----Original Message----- From: Judi Boniface <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, March 27, 1999 2:10 PM Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM-L] MERRILL, George W., RASBACH, Mary >See, it's working, I have confused you already! NOT TO BE DISRUPTIVE OR ANYTHING BUT I think the way she/he wrote the SUBJECT HEADING was just fine. Having it ALL in caps in the SUBJECT is quite confusing and just looks like a bunch of letters. It couldn't have been too bad, it caught your eye! I've seen your letters before, specifically to me, when my subject was absolutely perfect. Thank you, and I'm sorry if I used the wrong forum to express my opinion. JO DEE FRASCO
Sorry, hit the wrong button. I'm trying to track down any type of information on my greatgrandparents and my grandfathers siblings. From what I've been told by my father that all seemed to have spelled their last names differently and it's making the search very difficult. If any of the following sounds familar to anyone please contact me. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. 1. Anthony (Antoni) Skabowski b.Poland d. NY married Antonette ? b. Poland d. NY summer of 1957 (family supposedly had a farm somewhere in Upstate NY) Children: Tess, Margie, Estelle, Joseph(Josef,Jozef),Steven(Stephen,Stefen),Ann Jean, Frances(is), and Stanley (my grandfather) I know that Stanley was born 2/3/1903 in Jersey City, NJ. Don't know anything about any of the other children. My grandfather changed the spelling of his last name so not sure what to ask for when i try and request a birth certificate. Stanley was a policeman who used to walk the beat according to my father. My father says that all the little children used to call him Uncle Stanley. My grandfather died 6/3/1960 in Brooklyn and is buried at St. John's in Middle Village. Stanley married 11/29/1923 to Florence Louise Bolchon b. 8/15/1904 in Brooklyn,NY d. 3/25/1995 in Millville,NJ. Stanley and Florence had 3 children, Richard, Stanley(my father) and Claire. What I'm really hoping for is that someone will recognize these names and either know something or someone who does. Never know, maybe a relative of grandfathers siblings. Any help appreciated. Loretta Schabowsky Sutton in Millville, Cumberland Co., NJ Searching-Skabowski,Schabowsky,Bolchon(Bolchonus),Luby(Lubowski)
