    3. Hi Cee, Thanks for the tip, but it was just one sentence in the email, so I decided not to do caps. I really hate yelling, but I know it's helpful when used judicially. 2. Here I am again, urging members to stick to the Herkimer and Montgomery Counties topics. Once in a while, we all forget to send a reply to an individual instead of the list -- please double check your "send to" line before pressing that "send" button! Just one bout of forgetfulness can propel the list into the dumps, thereby sidestepping our goal to share genealogical information specific to the Herkimer and Montgomery Counties. Some of the pages have been returned and posted, still others are in the process of being typed. This looks like a very interesting project, so keep checking in. All the available pages have been mailed to the volunteers and almost daily, the typed packets are e-mailed back. Below you will find links to Book 1 and Book 2, which is where the genealogical information is located. Latest news: An old ledger with a writeup about old documents has been located. Probably this was the basis for the church history which was written in 1947 and revised in 1970. In the coming weeks, we hope to have this available on-line. Check back to this page, we may need more typing volunteers. Please do not request genealogical research from St. John's. If you wish to request research, the Montgomery County Department of History and Archives, in Fonda, NY 12068 will do research and also the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, St. Johnsville, NY 13452 (e-mail: [email protected]) The charge for a search from the library is $10.00 a search plus twenty-five cents for each page copied plus postage. Other reputable private researchers are available upon request by contacting the webmaster. Suggestion: Read "1970" . This file contains a book about the history of our church. Many names are listed and perhaps you will find more information about your family. Also, check the Fort Klock Historic Restoration web site. There are several lengthy documents on that site with many of the same names contained on St. John's site. To search for a particular family name, download the file. Most word processing programs will convert HTML into their format. After that step, ask your word processing program to search for the family name you are seeking. It is much easier than trying to search the entire text for a name. In some of the programs you have to ask for the program to "replace", just don't type in a replacement name and you should be able to locate all the incidences of the name. While we welcome you to make optimal use of the information provided on this web site by using it, copying it, or downloading it, as you are are able, this information is from St. John's church records and is provided to all as a Christian mission and therefore is not to be reproduced for sale or profit. 3. My mistrake -- I meant the R.U.C. history and Cemetery Records of the Town of Russia. (The Town of Russia once a part of the Town of Norway.) I find neither Easton, or Mabee names in these records. The Russia Union Church, est.before 1818, built a Church 1818, at Russia Corners (still there). I don't think the Church is active now. Much migration from that area to Lewis and Jefferson County ca, 1820 - 1840. The population mingled with adjacent areas of Remsen and Barneveld north and west of the Town of Russia. A bunch of EASTONs found in Depauville Cemetery, Town of Clayton, NY, e.g. Wilbur E., (1818-1866); Town of Pamelia: Charles Easton, 1829-1914. No clue of Mabee family. randy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, May 08, 1999 7:14 PM Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM-L] John Mabee, Norway, NY >In a message dated 5/8/99 8:38:53 PM Central Daylight Time, >[email protected] writes: > >> Have you >> checked the Russia Union Church records ? >Randy, > >Thanks. 2. Randy, Thanks (again) for the information. I do know that Maria Easton's parents were Isaac and Peace Easton (Isaac died sometime in the 1820s. I have found the census records for John, his father Peter (died in 1824), his mother Margaret (died in 1860), and for Isaac and Peace Easton. The Easton family was in Norway (census) from 1800 through 1840. The Peter Mabee family was in Charleston, until he died, then moved to Norway. Margaret's maiden name was Service, and I think she moved to Norway to be near her family. This is kind of strange, because the marriage of John and Maria is the only one that I can not find a record of for all of my ancestors back into the 17th century. Thanks for your help. Steve Mabie

    3. Steve - Is there a possibility that your Mabee's moved to a neighboring township? There is a Town of Ohio just 10 miles or so from Norway. Possibly they moved there first before going to Indiana? There is a small Methodist church in Norway, but from what I heard growing up in the area, the circuit preacher may have done the honors of baptism. Chris Lange

Specifically, I am trying to find out what church (if any) they may have been married in, and where they may have had their 2 children born in Norway (Maria and John Peter, who died in 1837) baptized. I have a copy of the Norway Tidings, and the article on John does not address these areas. One minor note: The Norway Tidings does contain an error in stating that John moved to Ohio and had no living sons. He and Maria moved to Indiana where they had a another daughter and one son (my great-grandfather, also named John Peter) prior to John's death in 1846. Thank you for your help, Steve Mabie
