    3. Helen How nice of you to reply and think of that event. I, also, have seen this account. I believe it was on the Herkimer County page, but might have been another location. I'm trying to remember which Adam that was, and you may be right. I think I located the story before I knew that he was an ancestor. I'll have to go back and check. Thanks Carol in Calif [email protected] wrote: > I saw the message posted by Carol Madsen re: Helmers. > > Carol refers to Adam Helmer. Adam Helmer has a place in history. 3. We don't have much information on Kellers. We have a Margaret Gray b. abt 1834 married a George Keller b. 1820's. George had a high quality photographic studio at the corner of Ward and Loomis Sts. Little Falls, Herkimer Co. George and Margaret had a dau. Id that married Charles Carroll Jarvis. Charles continued the Photo Studio at the same location. Ida and Charles had a dau. Susan Keller Jarvis b. October 13, 1890. We have pictures taken by the studio that are outstanding. The Gray family moved to Macon Co., IL. The Jarvis or Keller line may have moved with them because the portraits in IL are the same quality, but don't bear a studio name. Hope this helps, Errol and Valerie Cross -----Original Message----- From: MADSEN CAROL [SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 11, 1999 11:14 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NYHERKIM-L] SURNAME Roll Call I have some HELMERS married to KELLERs in Jefferson county probably abt the 1830 - 1845 time frame. They are sisters to my ggggrandmother Elizabeth HELMER. They would be Louisa HELMER b. 13 Sep 1834, who married Aaron KELLER b. abt 1826, the son of Jacob KELLER b. abt 1794; and her sister Catherine HELMER b. 7 Jun 1818 married to Rueben KELLER b. abt 1818. I don't know if Aaron and Rueben were brothers. The HELMERs and the KELLERs appear to have been neighbors in Evans Mills, Jeff., New York. Do any of these names fit with your Herkimer names. It might help to know that the HELMERs were born in Fairfield, Herk., New York before migrating to Jefferson County between 1835 and 1840. Let me know if there's a connection. 3. The marker is at Fort Herkimer, I think it is called. This is not the Herkimer Home site but about 2 miles east of Mohawk on Rte. 5-S. It's a dandy place to visit. On the north side of the road easily visible from the road. r.a.d. 3. OK so how are you connected? My Helmers seemed to be in Fairfield, and Herkimer. Are they near Dolgeville or was that another part of the family? My family is Philip Helmer listed on the Census of 1710, his son Johan Adam (aka Adam) Helmer, his son Henry A. Helmer b. 1747, his son Leonard Helmer b. 16 Sep 1791 and married to Catharine Herder/Harter , their daughter Elizabeth /Betsy Helmer 2 Dec 1813 who married Francis Forbes b. abt 1812, their son John Forbes (born in Jefferson County, New York) 18 Jun 1839, his son Alexander Forbes b. in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio on 10 Sep 1874, etc. . . . My Bellingers are also connected through the Harters. My ancester Appolonia Bellinger (the daughter of Adam Bellinger) married Johan Frederick Harter on 13 Apr 1753. They were the parents of Johan Jacob Harter b. 14 May 1768, and he was the father of Catharina/Catharine Harter/Herder who married Leonard Helmer. I probably bore you with details. So are any of these directly related to you? Thanks for the note.
