    1. [NYHERKIM] Surname Walrath
    2. I am researching the Walrath surname, specifically the ancestors and descendents of Robert H. Walrath, 1846-1900, and his wife Sarah, 1851-1925. Robert's father was John Adam Walrath. Robert was born in St. Johnsville and died in Little Falls. I have not been able to find Robert's obituary nor Sarah's. I don't know Sarah's maiden name. Robert and Sarah had several children: Cora (Hill), Merton, Grace (McDonald/McDonnell?), Lillian (Sweet) and Ward. Is anyone familiar with this family? Elsie West Hurley, NY

    1. [NYHERKIM] Peter COX b abt 1800
    2. Seeking information on a PETER LOBDELL stated in 1855 census that he was born in Herkimer Co, NY and married (1) _________. This marriage probably took place in NYS prior to 1828. Two of their daughters were Mary Jane LOBDELL, born 1828, and married in 1848 Daniel Kingsbury and Lucretia LOBDELL born 1831 and married 1848 Marvin PARRISH. It's conceivable Peter's parents lived in Genesee County prior to creation of Cattaraugus County. His (2) was a ___________ COX and a daughter was born to them in 1847. In 1825, Peter LOBDELL and family residing in Farmersville, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Cannot find him in 1820 or 1830 censuses. At this point, I'm "collecting" NYS Lobdells hoping someday something will fit together....Hope you can share yours with me. RuthThoden@aol.com

    1. [NYHERKIM] Thanks for all the Haskell replies!
    2. Nancy S Guenther
    3. I'm overwhelmed at the Haskell response. I've found a bunch of "new cousins". I haven't read the replies through yet but wanted to get back to the list fast. I have lots on the Posts. My line goes Abraham (prob), Stephen (immigrant), Abraham, Abraham, Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Dan, Dan, Dan, Frederick Benchley Post, Ethel (my grandmother who lived w/ us and died in 1967). She married Harold Lathrop Dailey, their dau Lucile Helen Dailey (my mom) married Robert Kirk Stephenson, then me. Stephen Post went to Saybrook and my line stayed there until Dan I came to Herkimer Co in 1894. His married Marcy Pratt in 1792 but I've never found her parents. I was back in Saybrook & Hartford a couple of months ago but no luck. There are 48 Pratt families in the 1790 C in Saybrook!!!! Here's Louise (aka Louisa) Haskell's obit: DEATH'S GRIM SUMMONS: Mrs. Louise A Post Expirers From a Stroke of Apoplexy: Strioken (sic) Down on Wednesday, She Never Regained Consciousness and Passed Away at 8 O'Clock Last Night - The Mother of Fred B and Miss Georgia Post - Came to Cherry Valley in the Early Days. (All of the above are the Headlines!!) Mrs. Louise A Post died last evening at 7:45 o'clock at her home at 521 North Church. She suffered a stroke of apoplexy Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, and never regained consciousness up to the time of her death. The deceased was the loving wife of Daniel Post, retired. She was born in Newport NY Aug 23, 1832 and was married to her present husband at that place November 29, 1849. The following spring they came west and located at Cherry Valley, being among the earliest settlers in that section. Later they resided at Belvidere, and about eighteen years ago removed to Rockford, where they have since resided. Only two children survive her, Fred B and Miss Georgia Post, both of whom are employed by the Withrow Baird company and live at home. The deceased has suffered from a complication of diseases for a number of years, and borne it all patiently. She was a plain home woman, unselfish in all things, and devoted to her family and children. She possessed a wide circle of acquaintances, in which she will be deeply and sorely missed. She entertained independent views upon the religious question, but lived a good christian life, and was a memberr of the Universalist church of Belvidere. The funeral will be held from the family residence Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and Dr Thos. Kerr will officiate. (Above taken from "The Morning 'Star', Friday, February 13, 1891", Rockford, IL) Thanks again to all, I have more if interested. Nancy

    1. [NYHERKIM] Surnames - SECKNER ( Sechner, Seghner, Etc.) and RUSSELL
    2. Mizaur
    3. I am researching the Seckner and Russell surnames in Herkimer Co. My known Seckner ancestor is Elizabeth Seckner (b. July 12, 1806 probably in Little Falls, Herkimer Co. or a nearby town - possibly German Flatts or Herkimer) Elizabeth married Jonathan W. Russell on September 22, 1822 in Little Falls, Herkimer Co., NY. I believe it is possible (but not proven at this point) that my Elizabeth Seckner is the daughter of John Seckner and Elizabeth Nash of Herkimer Co. John and Elizabeth were married about 1804 in Herkimer Co.. Jonathan Russell was born in Vermont on September 22, 1797. He enlisted in the War of 1812 at Schoharie Town, Schoharie Co. in 1814. He was a brick mason by trade and it is recorded in family history that he worked on the Erie Canal. It is unknown where his parents first settled in NY (His parents names are unknown). However, it could have been Herkimer Co. or Schoharie Co. Any information shared on the Seckner or Russell family of Herkimer County, NY would be appreciated. I will be glad to share/exchange information with anyone interested. Thank you. Nick Mizaur Omaha, NE

    2. I have little information on the Post family, but the Haskell family is massive, descending from three brothers who came to Massachusetts in the early 1600 from England. There is a Haskell Family Association, currently active. The Haskells around Newport are all related. I am descended fro Warren Haskell.

    3. Nancy, I have looked for SAMUEL POST, b.ca. 1813, d.ca. 1848, m. 1836 to Eliza Devendorff, both from the Town of Danube. I find the POST trail scarce, but if you find a clue, will you let me know? I find a Daniel Post born ca. 1936, Montgomery County. HASKELLs must be rare, too. Here are three HASKELLs bur. in Woodin Corners and Cold Brook (Rte 90) Cemetery, Town of Russia: DORCAS, 1837 - 1910 w/o Warren J. D. 1852 - 1894 (prob. a child.) WARREN 1835 - 1896. As the Town of Russia was once a part of the Town of Norway, perhaps they are part of the family Louise belonged to. One other bit - A daughter of Keziah (Haskell) Brooks (mother of): Aurel Brooks. Aurel b. 8 Sept 1781, d. 1 May 1871, m. William Allen. This might give a clue of their presence and migration route. 2. Bernie, I'm sorry I can't help much with your BUCHANAN-FURMAN problem, but I am also looking for information on Furman from the Herkimer Co. area and there may be a connection. Maria BADER (b. 1808, bap. 1809 at Minden, Mont. Co.) md. a Furman who's first name is unk. Maria is the daughter of Jacob Bader/BAUDER/PAUTER/POTTER and Gertraut WIETING. Maria's parents relocated several times in Herk/Mont/Scho/Otsego counties. Her sister Elizabeth "Betsey" (b. 1819, bap. 1820 at Fort Plain) md. Johannes FULMER Jr. and had at least one child bap. in German Flatts c. 1839. I know very little about Maria and/or her husband. She was alive in 1860 when she was mentioned as "Maria Furman" in the settlement of her father's estate (no location given). About 1845 Maria's parents moved from the Mohawk Valley to western NY State. I assume Maria (age mid-30s) was married by then, so I don't know if she stayed in the Mohawk Valley, moved to western NY or moved elsewhere. Two of her siblings moved to PA and two others to MI. I have no death date for her or her husband. Do you suppose Maria's husband is a brother of your Sarah Furman? Ed Harrison Eharr76546@cs.com
