I indeed DO have Native American blood. My gggg grandma was the Native wife of Charles Andrus and her name was Lucinda (possibly Davis). I along with a few other family members have been diligently searching for her ancestry. My grandmother had a tin type of Lucinda but in repeatedly asking who the Indian lady was, she always replied she didn't know. The tin type most likely came from her grandson's possessions and went to my great grandma when he died in 1924. What little we have found is not leading anywhere. We know Lucinda was born in 1786. Her husband was born in 1782 and was Christened at age 16 in 1798 in the Christ Episcopal Church in Ballston, Saratoga Co, NY. Thier first 3 of 13 kids were Christened in same church in 1806. Her name is written as Cinthia in the record. They came to Steuben County, NY with his parents Samuel & Annice Murray Andrus. Lucinda died between the 1860 and 1865 Census' and n othing known of his death and burial. If anyone knows where to find who she was, a whole lot of us would be forever greatful. I know this has nothing to do with Greene County but since you all were on the subject, I am asking for help with my Native American mystery. Annette Campbell
After rev war native live in hills also morivain indain missions took in natives dress them as whites, they got all thier needs from mission and were given english names. from Green County came my native families Oliver, Ingraham ( Ingram) Odell(adell) Warren Ect. About 1850 they moved in Sullivan County and Delaware County area. some were mixed blood. all indian were not pushed out some became farmers or as Ezra Oliver a shoe maker. In census records were recorded as white or black or skiped as was 1860 census many house listed as vacant. early white men came with no wifes and mated with native some farmer hired native women as house keepers later marrying them. it was not a good time to say you were indian or part indian. story has it about 1850 many native children were killed in Green County by new comers forcing them west. DNA maybe be only way to find native in your families and may not tell who. Hope this helps Don Silentbear Tashamey First look for all our likeness' only then our differences will be minute!
