This is a unique county in America for censuses, there are original sets of the federal censuses still sitting in the courthouse, in addition to the federal copies available on microfilm. It was the federal copies that were microfilmed by the National Archives. For all counties, the original copy remained in the courthouse. But finding these originals is difficult for most counties — they are few and far between because the locals never had any incentive to save them.
