    1. Re: Edson
    2. According to "Edson Family History and Genealogy: Descendants of Samuel Edson of Salem and Bridgewater, Mass." 2 volumes by Carroll Andrew Edson, circa 1969-1970. John Wesley Edson 8 (Virgil James 7, Lewis 6, Lewis 5, Obed 4, Samuel 3, Samuel 2, Samuel 1) John Wesley Edson (1834-1925) m. Sarah Jane Dymond (1834-1911). They were the parents of the following ten children. 1. Evaline C. (1856-?) m. Egbert Quick, Lewis F. Foland & George W. Wheeler 2. Virgil James (1858-1933) m. Estelle Elizabeth Lord 3. Lavina (1860-1924) m. Mr. Blackburn & Jacob Lasher 4. Alferetta (1862-1941) m. John Walter Traub 5. Isabelle (1865-1871) 6. Herbert Harvey (1867-1939) m. Fanny Catherine Simpkins 7. Rose Valerie (1869-1906) m. William Franklyn Van Natten 8. Orizon Vandervoort (1872-1949) m. Elizabeth Jane Harding, Sigrid Marie Nillson & Katherine Lucy (Davis) Langdon 9. Milton Lewis (1875-1920) m. Catherine Burke 10. Annette (or Antoinette) Belle (1877-1904) m. Edgar Palmer William G. Edson 7 (Lewis 6, Lewis 5, Obed 4, Samuel 3, Samuel 2, Samuel 1) William G. Edson (1811-1898), son of Lewis Edson & Orilla Mead, m. Catherine Short (1804-1873). He was listed on the 1850 Lexington, Greene County, NY census, but later moved to and died in Margaretville, Delaware County, NY. Lewis Gilver Edson 8 (Virgil James 7, Lewis 6, Lewis 5, Obed 4, Samuel 3, Samuel 2, Samuel 1) Lewis Gilver Edson (1824-1849) m. Adelide "Delia" Morse. Their only child, Levi (1847-?), m. Nellie Philo & Harriet Tryphena Averill. He moved to Michigan. The Edson genealogy says that Delia was living in Jefferson, Schoharie County, NY in 1850. Levi served in the Civil War, Co. F, 15th New York Engineer Corps. His known children were Buneat (b. about 1869), Carl P. (b. 1873) & Daisy G. (b. 1875). Patricia Morrow, Windham Town Historian (Greene County, NY) >Herbert & Virgil Edson, brothers, of Jewett, were the sons of John Wesley & Sarah Jane Dymond, of Woodstock. John Wesley's father was Virgil James Edson, he was the son of Lewis & Orilla Mead. Eliza Catherine Edson married Nelson Harder. She was a daughter of Virgil James. William, of Lexington, was also the son of Lewis & Orilla? How do they tie into a Lewis Edson, grandfather of Lewis Waterman, inventor of fountain pen? In 1850 Census Woodstock, there is an Adelide Edson, ae 23, & son Levi Edson ae 3, living with Daniel & Elizabeth Morse. Austin Shultis is their neighbour. Austin Shultis married an Adelia Morris/Morse. In 1860 Woodstock, there is an Edson Morse ae 12 living with Daniel & Elizabeth Morse. 1860 Saugerties (Daisy), Austin Shultis, 39, is with Adelia, 33, and dau Mary, 7. Austin died by 1880, leaving a wife and 2 children. 1880 Census has Adelia with only Mary. Was Austin's wife Adelia first married to an Edson? If so, which one? Could Edson Morse be Levi, name changed or Morse added, "adopted" by grandparents? Agnes Shultis, dau of Austin & Adelia, married Charles Waterbury, son of Judson Waterbury & Mary Cook Newkirk of Saugerties. Judson came to Saugerties about 1850 from Renssalear Co. I cannot find this Agnes Shultis in any records. Maybe Agnes & Mary are the same person? Thanks for any help, Peigi

    3. Patricia, Once again, thank you. www.woodstockhistory.org: From "Complete Record, as required by hapter 690, of the Laws of 1865, Relating to Officers......Composing the quotas of Troops Furnished to the US, by the Town of Woodstock.............In the War of the Rebellion, and covering the period from the 15 day of April 1861 ......................" Levi Edson, born 1 Sep 1847 Woodstock, parents Lewis Edson & Delia Morse, enlisted as private in 15th NY Co F for 1 yr, 17 Oct 1864, discharged 3 Jun 1865. Delia/Adelide & Levi are indeed in both Schoharie & Woodstock Census in 1850. Levi would have been 17 at enlistment. He was in MI by 1870. Delia's parents were Daniel & Elizabeth.
