Hi I have a booklet genealogy someone sent me years ago, that includes the family you mention: Johannes Van Deusen and Christynje De la mater they had 6 children plus a7th by a second wife. Chikdren Ariantje Gloudje, Cornelis, John, Ariantje, Jacobus. the 7th by Marytje Bronck is SAaartje. The booklet follows Jacobus 's family. Hello Susan, Thank you so much for the information, that is the family I am looking for. My problem is attempting to locate Cornelius and his son Claude from the time period of 1820 to 1840.With what you have told me, their strange penchant for changing their name had been going on for awhile. There are three strange possiblities that bring this about, they were actaully not giving the correct name, someone had a speech impediment, they got the worst of the enumerators.Though I did notice in the 1855 or 65 Kinderhook census, the enumerator was upset beause he was meeting with a great deal of resisitance to his questions and either getting no information or incomplete answers. Will check out the name VanDrum, the name VanDensen was also a name I found them as, on the 1850 census in Chatham . So I will go back and redo the census records under alot of other names I hadn't thought of. I do so appreciate all that you are doing with your site, it is great! If you ever need help transcribing please let me know. Another question, if I get back down the the state library, is there something you are interested in from there?
