Newell E. Vining married Miss Avis Leona Smith on 17 Oct 1930 at the Windham Methodist parsonage. Avis was the daughter of Hilton and Mabel (Deyoe) Smith. According to the 1958 Deyo/Deyoe genealogy, Avis married a Mr. Brown. There is no mention of her marriage to Newell Vining, so perhaps it ended in divorce. Newell's obituary indicates that he remarried around 1942. I mistakenly assumed that was his second marriage. >Subject: Re: Vining Date: Fri, 8 Apr 2005 11:29:50 EDT Mary Magdalena "Lena" Alle, daughter of J. Christopher and Eva Rose (Richenecker) Alle, was born 20 Mar 1882 in Germany and died 2 Dec 1922 in Windham. When Lena died she was survived by her four children: Carl (age 10), Louise (age 8), Stella (age 5) and Leah (age 3). Lena married Newell E. Vining, son of Jeptha P. and Etta F. (Hitchcock) Vining, on 26 Oct 1911 in Hensonville. Newell was born in Jewett on 16 Nov 1886 and died on 14 Oct 1943 in Bridgeport, CT and was buried there. He remarried about a year before his death, but the name of his second wife is not mentioned in his obituary. When Newell died, Carl was living in Bridgeport, CT; Louise had married Lloyd Robert Jenkins and was living in Walton, NY; Stella had married John Tully and was living in Poughkeepsie, NY; and Leah had married her first husband, George Hankinson, and was also living in Poughkeepsie.
