    3. SNYDER and HALENBECK Searching for information about Cornelius D. Snyder and Alida Catherine Halenbeck (sp?). Cornelius was born about 1823 in Schoharie or Greene County. He died Sept. 15, 1864 at Andersonville Prison after being captured by the Confederacy while he was serving in the 7th NY Heavy Artillery. Alida was born abt 1832 in Greene Co. and died Dec. 25, 1879. She is buried at Presbyterian Cemetery, Livingstonville, Broome Township, Schoharie County. Cornelius and Alida were married April 1, 1848 in Broome, Schoharie County. I am lost on the parentage of each. Cornelius may have been related to Peter A. Snyder (mentioned in Beers History of Greene County). Peter A. Snyder moved back and forth between Durham and Broome. One of the moves was made from Broome to Durham near the time of Cornelius's birth (Beers does not mention a son named Cornelius). Alida's gravestone is located next to a gravestone of Anna Snyder, wife of Addison Hollenbeck, born June 15, 1825, died June 1, 1897. Is Anna a sister of Cornelius Snyder and/or Addison a brother of Alida? Children of Corneius and Alida were: Maranda C. Caroline Maria Catharine Charles H Christina Lorenzo Dow (my 2nd gr grandfather) Levi D Mary Catharine Thanks to all, Doug Boyer dgboyer@charter.net http://www.caverdoug.com/doug.htm

    3. I'm very slow in reviewing these Greene Co E-Mails, but saved them to read later, as I was gone during roll call. To me Lorenzo is an odd name for English, Welch that my Newman family is, and doesn't match Snyder so much either, to me anyway. More Italian? It is in our family back to Greene Co. so I wonder if there is some reason or history behind it that anyone knows of? My father was Lorenzo Adin [Aden] Newman, his cousin was Lorenzo Martin Newman, the second. The family moved to Oak Hill [Durham] just after his father, LMN the first was born. Apparently following other Newmans to Greener pastures, Ha !
