    1. Re: [GREENE COUNTY] Augustus HOTCHKISS
    2. Dick Dodge
    3. Thanks to Fred Boughton and Donald Hotchkiss for responding to my Hotchkiss posting. However the information sent is not the Augustus Hotchkiss I am searching for. Perhaps I did not include enough information in my orginal posting. I have previously been in touch with Joan Johnson at the Hotchkiss Family Association and she has records of two Augustus Hotchkiss's, neither of them are my ancestor. She did provide one clue from the files of the late Shirley Nixon; that my Augustus married Ann Tyler, but there was no documentation of where Shirley got this information. The 1850, 1855, 1860 census for Delaware County, NY all indicate that my Augustus was married to an "Ann", but I have had no surname. The 1855 NY state census indicates that Ann was born in Westchester County c1796, however this conflicts with the 1865 NY state census that indicates that Ann was born in Albany County. I've checked the 1800 census and found TYLER's in Westchester County, none in Albany County, but a TYLER is in Schoharie County (Schoharie was originally part of Albany County and was spun off in 1795). I'm researching these leads to see where they go. The reason I made the post on the Greene County website was that I found that there was an Augustus Hotchkiss who served in the 12 Reg't Cavalry (Boughton's), New York Militia during the War of 1812. I have sent for his service record, but not received it yet. In researching Boughton's Reg't., I found that it was Seymore Boughton located in Ontario County, NY; however I found that Seymore Boughton was in Summit, Schoharie County in 1810, so I thought that there might be a Greene County connection with my Augustus since Seymore was there in 1810. I found it very curious that "Fred Boughton" responded to my email--is there a connection to Seymore Boughton? The information I have for Augustus is outlined below: 1820 census-Augustus is in Roxbury, Delaware County, NY 1830 census-Augustus is in Delhi, Delaware County, NY 1840 census-Augustus is in Hamden, Delaware County, NY 1850 census-Augustus is in Hamden, Delaware County, NY 1855 census-Augustus is in Hamden, Delaware County, NY 1860 census-Augustus is in Hamden, Delaware County, NY 1865 census-wife Ann is living with her daughter Laura Ann Fish in Hamden, Delaware County, NY apparently Augustus died between 1860 and 1865 1870 census-wife Ann is living with her daughter Laura Ann Fish in Hamden, Delaware County, NY 1878 Obit- Anna, relict of Augustus Hotchkiss died in North Hamden 2 January 1878. The 1850.1855, and 1860 census all indicate that Augustus was born in Connecticut; however the information on his age conflicts: 1850 census indicates that he was born c1797 1855 census indicates that he was born c1798 1860 census indicates that he was born c1800 Two of the census (1830 & 1855) indicate a middle initial "R"; the 1840 census appears to be an "B". Augustus and Ann Hotchkiss had the following children that I know of: Laura Ann b. c1819; married Charles Fish Thomas b. c1824; married Priscilla John b. October 1825; married Susan My hope when I made the post a couple of days ago was that one of the HOTCHKISS's in Greene County would be connected to my Augustus: in Durham, George HOTCHKISS, Henry HOTCHKISS, and Lemuel HOTCHKISS; and in Windham, John HOTCHKISS.
