    3. Try the Surrogates Court where the wills are kept or the County Clerk's Office where the deeds are kept. 3. Another place where I have found deeds recorded is in the New York Department of State Dockets. Don't ask me why deeds would be recorded the the Department of State Docket books. I am licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, so many New York legal conventions are a total mystery to me. I just know that I have found deeds and the Chancery Decree that settled General Philip Schuyler's decedent's estate in the Dockets of the New York State Department of State. The Department of State Docket books can be found in the New York State Archives in Albany, NY.
