    1. Daniel Angle of Lexington
    2. Daniel Angle's original name was Daniel Engelcke. He was born in Hildesheim, Germany, about 1753, and was 5'5" tall. He served in the American Revolution, as a private, in the Brunswick Army of General von Riedesel. This unit was sent to the U.S. as part of the British-hired auxiliary forces (“Hessians”). He was captured at the Battle of Saratoga in October 1777. He deserted from the POW camp at Winterhill (Cambridge, Mass.) in April 1778, and later returned to Rutland, Mass. He joined the American forces in 1781, served with the Massachusetts Continental Army, was honorably discharged at West Point 6/30/1784, was credited with three years of service, and was granted a pension. Daniel settled in Berne, Albany County, NY, in the 1780's and moved to Beach Ridge, Lexington, Greene County, NY, in 1806. Daniel Angle had seven children: Hannah (b. 1787); Jacob (b. 1789); Catherine (b. 1791); Daniel (b.1794), died in infancy; Christopher (b. 1796); Frederick (b. 1797); Peter (b.1803). Christopher Angle served as a captain in the Lexington militia. Daniel Angle died Dec. 2, 1840, in Lexington, NY, and is buried alongside his wife, Catherine Becker, on the family plot. Their youngest son, Peter Angle, is my 3rd great grandfather. His wife was named Dorcas Chapman, and she was born in Connecticut. Bill Smith Brooklyn, NY
