    2. I agree that more research is needed to clear this up. The will is for a William I. not J. Have you seen the original will to see if it is a 'J' or an 'I'? Interesting the son is Christopher as a heir. Janice >> Interesting. Either I have the incorrect will abstract for this particular William J. Wells and he lived longer and married Caroline Searles (nee Brown)- or - I have the correct will abstract for this William J. Wells who then died before the 3 June 1872 probate date and you need to look for another William J. Wells of the same age as this one!

Interesting the son is Christopher as a heir. >> Nope, haven't seen the underlying will. "I" and "J" were written similarly for many years so I wouldn't put too much stock in that. Even if the will doesn't clear that up, the rest of the paperwork in the probate package should by giving more context. Strange that neither(?) William J. Wells has a gravestone that I can find.
