The question is about a three times married, woman, Helen Mae Rice, whose father was born in Greene Co. Sept. 15, 1808, left there just before 1820 and proceeded slowly westward. Daughter, Helen Mae Rice was born in Cattaraugus Co. in the 1840's. She married first a man with the last name of VADER, (maybe connected to the VEDDER line?). She was a school teacher and apparently known as Holley VADER during this marriage, no children. She next married a Norris KELLOGG, had two children, and then married a Julius or Julian VOSBURGH. The Vader marriage was apparently NY. and/or IA., the Kellogg, Greene or Jefferson Co.IA. and/or Creighton, NE. and the Vosburgh was the Creighton, NE. area. After the third husband died, she and the Kellogg daughter moved to Julesburg, Co. where the daughter died, in the late 1920's. Helen died in Coffeyville, KS. in 1931, (got around a bit, didn't she!) No wonder I can find very little trace of her grandfather, Ephraim Rice/Royce, in Greene Co. Catskill area, NY. He spent 25 years there, but they just seemed to brush out their tracks as they left. I know that at least branches of these three line's, just seemed to migrate westward, right along with my Rices. Thought I would ask if anyone had records connected to any of them, as they moved westward from Greene Co. Thanks, Clyde Rice, (DNA proved to be Royce, of CT.)
Hi I do not have any info on your Helen Royce/Rice. In my website under "Short History of Tully:" I show the connections of several families that moved together from Greene Co /Coxsackie Athens Catskill area to Tully/ Preble NY area between 1802 and 1820. These are all families I have in my tree. These are the only families I have studied from that area. Mainly the families are of Dutch Coloniak origin. Most were among the original families in early Albany Co/Rennselaer employee tennant families. They include Hallenbeck, Klauw, Van Hoesen, Van Loon, Calyer, Spoor, Conyn, Van Vechten (this was the common family that the others married into, of the Tully group) My Van Buskirks were in Manhattan in 1654 and a few of them were in the Coxsackie area by 1720s, my ancestor bp1731 near New York, married a Maria Klauw bp1738 at ZionLutheran Church Athens, maried 1760 at same church. Their son John married Eva Spoor, both were baptized at Zion Lutheran at the same service January 1762 married about 1780. All of their 9 children and they themselves came to Preble /Tully area, One went on to Michigan, the others remained and raised families in the area. These are thefamilies I refer to. I have made a lot of progress on the early families , nothing later than 1800 in the Greene Co area. I hope that helps you know where I may be able to help someone. good luck.JOHN C VAN BUSKIRK http://www.geocities.com/vanbus1/ jvanbus1@twcny.rr.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <clideryce@starband.net> To: <NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 29, 2005 11:34 PM Subject: Re: [GREENE COUNTY] Van Buskirk site, (was New to list) > John wrote: > > Half of my family are > > Greene Co based, and or Columbia Co, many both.
