    3. Hi, Could someone help me....on a Dutch name....Elisha, is that a female name. Do you think she would change it to Elizabeth? I'm working with information I got from a cemetery and they say there was a daughter Elizabeth but the only one it could be is Elisha. Thanks for any help,....Pat

    3. All the Elisha's in my family (late 1700's) were male. Later generations it seemed to morph into Eleazer. Betwenn the two, I would rather be Elisha. Now Eliza is more apt to be female. -----Original Message----- From: Pat Saemmer [mailto:patinfla@atlantic.net] Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 9:39 PM To: NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GREENE COUNTY] Names Hi, Could someone help me....on a Dutch name....Elisha, is that a female name. 3. There was an Elisha Powell in Athens, buried in Limestreet Chapel Cemetery. He was a, well, he. I've only seen that first name with surnames that look more or less English. There is a Dutch first name Elsje that is female. Sounds like El-sha. Elisha may be a variant of Elijah.
