    1. Dead ends - Tompkins and Dunagan + Underhill

    3. With all this recent interest on the list, I thought I would post my three dead ends in Greene County. 1. Michael Dunagan (all sorts of phonetic spellings including Dunnigan, Dunnaga, Dunegan, etc) shows up living in Hunter in the 1830 census and based upon a variety of sources I know he was born in about 1804 in Ireland, married Eleanor (Ellen) Underhill and they had two children by 1830. In around 1848 he moved from Hunter to Olive in Ulster County where he died between 1850 and 1855. I have tracked lot's of his children's line. But ... who were his parents, did they come to America with him, and where in Ireland was he born. 2. Sophia Tompkins (possibly aka Eunice Tompkins) was born in Greene County in about 1827 and in 1844 she married Jacob Hornbeck at the Chapman's Hotel in Prattsville. She moved to Denning in Ulster County and Neversink in Sulliavn County, finally being murdered in Accord, Ulster County in 1868 at the hands of her second husband Jeremiah Smith - a man "too worthless for work" according to the news reports at the time. Who were the parents of Sophia/Eunice Tompkins. I have always assumed she must have lived somewhere in or near Prattsville due to the location of her marriage, but who knows? 3. The parents of previously mentioned Elenore Underhill were William Underhill (of Amenia, Greene County per the Underhill book) and Martha b. Hunter, Greene on June 9, 1783, d. May 5, 1822. But what was the full name of Martha? If anyone provides any answers or clues, you will have my eternal gratitude ... the Catskill region of NY has always been a blackhole of records in my family!!
