It was common then, as it is now to put the names and birth dates of the surviving spouse on the tombstone when it was being chiseled for the recently depoarted, so that all that had to be completed was the date of death when the surviving spouse died. Perhaps Caroline and William are buried toghether - perhaps in Columbia Co??
