Sorry --might not get my last. (but surf Google to find it) Try this: http://newyorkoldschool.blogspot.com/ Which is: The first (and second) Capital of New York State. The first Capital of New York was (drumroll...) Kingston! In 1777 colonial legislators got together to ratify a constitution for the State of New York. Exciting! On October 16, 1777 Gen. John Vaughan and 3,000 British soldiers marched from their landing point Rondout, and burned down Kingston. After this happened, the state Capital was moved to Poughkeepsie. Poughkeepsie was a bustling town in 1788, village in 1799 and finally city in 1854 and it was the state Capital from 1777-1779. Mayor Harvey Eastman established Eastman National Business College in 1859; it closed in 1932." Fred Boughton
