I am the ggrandaughter of Mary Elizabeth Tompkins, wife of Lauren A. Matthews, daughter of William Tompkins and Drucilla Christian Tompkins. My grandfather was her son, William Tompkins Matthews and my father was his son, Harry Allen. I have not been able to find either William Tompkins' or his wife Drucilla Christian Tompkins' parents, so my tree stops there. I believe that they all lived in Ashland, Greene Co., NY. I know that Lauren and Mary lived there and, since William Tompkins is buried in North Settlement Cemetery, I assume that they lived there too. Lauren and Mary are buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland. I have a huge, formal portrait of Mary Elizabeth on the wall in this room and it constantly reminds me that I want to know more about her and her family. I know that she was Lauren's second wife, as his first wife died at the age of 20. They had one child and my mother told me that Mary raised her as her own. They had seven children of their own.
