I'm finally getting on board the "roll-call train"! Hope all you list readers, and contributors, are not worn out from reading the tremendous amount of responses to Sylvia's call - and still are interested enough to read mine! I read through every single one, just hoping to find some connection. I did find a couple - an inquiry about Tyler/Hotchkiss that I responded to in a separate message, and Sylvia's Lennon family connection, which we have previously discussed together at length. My 4th great-grandparents, Israel and Abigail (Tyler) Huse, have connections to these following families. I am trying to sort some of them out. 1. NOBLE Goodman Noble (d. 7 Aug 1834 in Cairo) was m. to Sarah Tyler. Does anybody know who her parents were? Their son Gideon (1790-1827) m. Rebecca Huse (c 1794-1869). Rebecca was daughter of Israel and Abigail Huse/Hues. Gideon's son Nathaniel (1818-1894) m. Ruth Searing (1824-1910). Ruth was daughter of Amos Jr., who was son of Amos Searing and Hannah (Ferris?), my 4th great-grandparents. Their daughter Sarah/Sally m. Ira Huse, son of Israel and Abigail. 2. SEARING Amos Searing of Columbia Co NY also owned ppty in Greene Co and perhaps lived there a short time. His son Amos Jr and descendants lived in and around Durham for decades. Children of Amos Jr: Ruth m. Nathaniel Noble (one of their daughters named Aravesta) James m. Elizabeth DeSacia Aravesta m. Robert H. Robinson (anybody have info on this family? Aravesta/Arvesta name came down my family line, too) Almeron m. Sophia Kerr (son Everett b. 1870 d. 1948, desc. may have genealogy info) Amos S. (nfi) Almira (1834-1841) William (nfi) Richard m. Theresa Bush Sally "SERRIN", daughter of Amos Searing Sr, was my 3rd great-grandmother. Her mother's name was Hannah. I am trying to resolve conflicting information about Hannah, who I believe was the daughter of Timothy Ferris and Ruth Hubbard. However, other online information indicates she might be daughter of a Thomas Gilbert and Mary Booth of New Haven Co CT. Also seeking identity of Amos' previous wife (or wives). He died 1808 and is buried in Krum Cemetery in Hillsdale, Columbia Co NY, but his wife Hannah remained in Durham her entire life. 3. EVERETT Hannah Searing almost certainly was previously married to an Everett, and had a son Samuel Everett whose wife was Anna St. John (dau of Abraham), according to Stonebridge Cemetery records, which show Hannah and Anna buried next to each other. Seeking any information about this Everett line. Are there any known descendants of Samuel? Could his father have been named Richard? 4. LENNON Sylvia and I both have an interest in this family. Robert Lennon's daughter Mary m. Orin Huse who was, I believe, the brother of Ira, son of Israel. Daniel Lennon (1783-1874) m. Elizabeth Noble, dau of Goodman and Sarah (Tyler) Noble. Robert and Daniel Lennon were apparently brothers. Below are my research notes for Orin/Orrin Huse, showing interesting naming patterns that I think might indicate a relationship to my Huse family of Durham. "Speculation at this point - more research is needed, but I'm fairly certain this Orrin is a brother to Ira. 1. His name is spelled "Hughs" in the 1830 Durham census (as is Ira's). 2. Ira named two sons Ira and Orrin. 3. Ira's Aunt Rebecca Hues Noble (wife of Gideon) named two sons Ira Hues Noble and Orrin Noble. 4. Orrin is obviously a name that runs in this family line. It remains to be seen whether proof exists that this Orrin is the 3rd of Isreal Huse/Hues' young sons in the 1810 census (the others being Ira and Josiah). "Orrin Hues / Hughs m. Mary Lennon in Greene Co NY. Both of them are related to the Noble family, which gives even more weight to this relationship. Mary's Uncle Daniel Lennon was m. to Elizabeth Noble, the sister of Gideon. Orrin's Aunt Rebecca Hues Noble was Gideon's wife. Furthermore, Orrin's age is right to be a son of Isreal Hues - who was the only Hues / Huse living in Durham NY at the time. jd 9/26/02." Aft. 1830 he may have removed "to the West". HUSE Still seeking proof that my 4th great-grandfather Israel Huse was the son of Bodwell of East Haven, New Haven CT (in Freehold, Albany Co NY 1790 Census). This would be a significant genealogical discovery since at least two Huse family books indicate Bodwell's son Israel died unmarried and without issue, by drowning (reference is to New Haven V.R., no date given) My 3rd great-grandfather Ira Huse, had a son named Israel Ferris Huse/Hughes. His biographical sketch in "Biographical History of Northeastern Ohio, Embracing the Counties of Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake": The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, IL 1893, pages 869-870 says his grandfather was Israel Hughes "of Connecticut" who died in the service (he died in War of 1812). Did Israel die by drowning? I don't know - but his only brother, Collins Huse, had a son Collins who died at sea Dec 1815, also according to New Haven V.R. These two deaths probably occurred within a year or so of each other. Could there be confusion by whoever contributed the record, probably long after the family's removal to NY ca 1788-1790? Israel may be the other male, age 16+, living in Bodwell Huse's home in 1790 census. He married Abigail Tyler in 1792 in Greenville Presbyterian Church, Freehold (both said to be of Durham, which was formed partly from Freehold). Bodwell's two daughters Anna (wife of Samuel Brown, m. 1784 in New Haven CT), and Rebekah (wife of 1-Thomas Howell, m. 1788 in New Haven CT, then 2-Josiah Moulton) were also in Greene Co at the time). I would welcome any relevant information about these Brown and Howell families. Children of Israel and Abigail Huse: i. Rebecca m. Gideon Noble ii. Ira m. Sarah/Sally Serrin/Searing iii. Desire m. a Mr. Finch (I think it's possible, but not proven, that she is the Desire "HALL", said to be the 2nd of the 4 wives of Ezra Finch, who lived in Athens. I cannot find any other reference in Finch genealogies to a wife named Desire. Family historian in Geauga Co (grandniece of Desire) said she "died of shock from a near drowning in the Hudson River". According to Baptist Church Records in Catskill, in 1824 a Desire Huse "removed from Catskill Baptist Church" (possibly to marry?); per Sylvia Hasenkopf's Greene Co NY website. iv. daughter (possibly named Minerva or Miranda) - nfi v. Josiah M. Huse m. 1) Esther Rickerson (?); 2) Clarissa Ellis - whose parents were Peter Ellis and Clarissa Hollenbeck. Josiah was a carpenter who moved back and forth between Schoharie, Albany and Greene Counties. vi. Orrin/Orin m. Mary Lennon (see above). Hope this is of interest to somebody. I have many, many more notes. Comments, corrections, etc., very welcome. Thanks! Judy in Georgia
