I've got some information of the first several generations of the Shufelts on my web page. http://home.midsouth.rr.com/groatline/Index.html Keep in mind that most of what's up there came straight from the 1935 book "Our Folks" which is fraught with errors and omoissions. Not knocking the work of the Shufelt Association and Henry Ball Shufelt, the principal compiler. They were working under conditions far more primitive than we face today. It served as a basis for all of my research. Also I just put that up there about five years ago and haven't touched it since. I'm trying to finalize a book on them that I have tentatively entitled "Our Folks Revisited." However each time I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel it turns out to be a not too bright candle! <grin> That starts me off on a tangent and requires massive renumbering and rewrites. Right now it looks like about 4,000+ direct descendants and amounts to about 800 pages. I really need to clean it up and try to put it to bed before the good Lord puts me to bed. I have a draft that I thought was approaching final about six months ago but it too is incomplete compared to what I have discovered since. If you have a high speed connection (cable or dsl) and you can read a MS Word document, I'll be more than glad to send it to you. Just let me know. By the way - I'm sure it goes without saying that the name variations SHUFELT, SHUFELDT, ZUFELT, ZUFELD, SHOEFELT, SHEWFELT, etc., etc., are all mostly the same family. I only had this because I was researching some of the Spoor lines and this Van Wie line was relatively easy to trace. Do you have anything on-line for the Shufelt family? I'm going through the Kinderhook baptisms and can't easily figure out who all the Shufelts are. They must have migrated from further south in Columbia County. We do keep bumping into one another don't we? Of course the Shufelt -- Van Wie marriage caught my eye and provided me with a bit more background on Helen Celie Van Wie. I didn't have the exact wedding date or place prior to this. This is part of what I currently have in my draft: ---------------------------- Sellick Edgar SHUFELT, the son of Peter Shufelt and Sarah Jane Wood, was born August 4, 1842. He married in 1870, Helen Celia Van Wie, born June 8, 1845, and maintained a clothing business in Albany. Sellick died May 11, 1896, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie, New York. The 1920 Federal Census of Albany shows Helen, age 74, living with her daughter and son-in-law, Elmer and Mae Passenger. Helen died May 2, 1933, and she also was buried in Riverside Cemetery. They had at least three children, only one of whom survived in 1900. 1) Edgar Baxter SHUFELT: born November 25, 1872. 2) Van Wie SHUFELT: born October 15, 1874. 3) Celia Mae SHUFELT: born March 31, 1886. ---------------------------- I have details on their children and grandchildren if you find it of interest. Just give me a shout. Sylvia, Probably not anything that would be useful. I do have the parents information of Edgar C.: Charles E. SHUFELT, the son of David Bellinger Shufelt and Rachel ______, was born about 1868. This is almost certainly the Charles Shufelt who married, about 1902, Nettie B. _________, and lived in Ashland, Greene County, New York, where he was a farmer. He married rather late, at the age of about 33, but quickly made up for lost time as his wife had six children in the first eight years of marriage and thirteen in all in just the first 23 years of marriage. One of the first six children died young. They died in Ashland-Nettie in 1938 and Charles in 1944-and they were buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery (aka Ashland Cemetery). Among the children of Charles and Nettie were: 1) Floyd A. SHUFELT: born about 1903. 2) Clara M. SHUFELT: born about 1904. 3) Clarence E. SHUFELT: born about 1905. 4) Ethel SHUFELT: born about 1906. 5) Albert J. SHUFELT: born about 1909. 6) Dorothy SHUFELT: born about 1910. 7) Sidney F. SHUFELT: born about 1912. 8) Elizabeth SHUFELT: born about 1914. 9) Edgar C. SHUFELT: born about 1916. 10) Louise SHUFELT: born about 1919. 11) Muriel L. SHUFELT: born about 1921. 12) Mildred F. SHUFELT: born about 1924. For a moment there I had a thought that perhaps Clara M. married a Delamater but a quick check showed the following: Clara M. SHUFELT, the daughter of Charles E. Shufelt and Nettie B ______, was born about 1904. She married about 1923, Harold Finch, born about 1902. At the time of the 1930 census, they lived at Windham, Green County, New York, where Harold was a foreman in a creamery, and they had four children. Also living with them at the time were Clara's sister Ethel and her brother Floyd who worked as a laborer in a creamery; probably the same creamery in which Harold was a foreman. Clara and Harold Finch were still together at the time of the 1930 census so if she married a Delamater it was later. I don't have anything else on Edgar C. In fact I didn't have his exact birthdate until now. Thanks! I sure wish I could be of some further help because I've watched you over the years being so helpful to others. Have you tried contacting Cliff Lamere lately. I think he's heavily into the Delamaters. His web page remains at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ I think I have his up to date email address on my other PC. If you need it give me a shout.
