Virginia, Thurlow Weed, prominent in the establishment of an Albany newspaper (name escapes me right now) and in state and national politics, was born in Acra in the late 1700's, and the home still stands today. I have a copy of a photo of Thurlow Weed ,which I was very glad to find, as there are were supposedly few ever taken of him. (If you are sure of a direct connection with Thurlow Weed, I'd be happy to e-mail you a scanned copy) William Weed was listed as a fireman on the Canajoharie and Catskill Railroad as late as 1842 and is listed as having received $38.88 on July 31st. ( Someone, I believe was looking for information on an Eckler surname. I find that James Eckler was also listed along with William Weed, as an engineer on the Catskill line and received $18.47 on May 13,1841 and $85.39 on July 31.)
