    3. Athen's will be celebrating it's 200th birthday in June of this year. Below you will find the agenda for the centennial celebrations. Any questions, just call Sharon Palmateer. Her number is at the end of this message. Centennial Celebrations: The Athens Cultural Center on Second Street will be open with displays on loan from the Athens Museum. The D. R. Evarts Library will be open with historical displays. Calendars, T-shirts and a commemorative video of Athens: Moments in Time will be available for sale at the Village Green. Friday , June 3 5:30pm - A community chicken BBQ will be held at the Village Green (Little League field). You must present a ticket to receive your dinner. Tickets will be made available to Village and Town of Athens residents at Stewart's on May 7 at 10am. First come-first served. The Dented Fenders, a Barbershop Quartet, will entertain during dinner so come prepared to sing along. The 125th NY Regimental Volunteers of the Civil War will be joining us so feel free to welcome them and ask any questions you might have. 7:00pm - Opening Ceremonies will consist of a skit depicting the Athens area during its changes of Indian encampment, Palatine inhabitation, Dutch rule, English rule through the American Revolution to the Incorporation of the Village of Athens as the third oldest Village in New York State and the first Village in Greene County. Dignitaries will be there to sign a modern copy of the original charter and receive a plaque and time capsule to commemorate the event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday, June 4 9am-11am - Clubs and Organizations can use a table at the Village Green for a membership drive, raffle, or simply showcase their group. 125th NY Regimental Volunteers of the Civil War will 'enlist' volunteers to 'report for duty' Sunday at 1pm. 10am-4pm - Greene County Historical Society Annual Old Homes Tour - approximately 10 homes will be open to the public. Tickets will be available at the First Reformed Church as well as 'box lunches' 1pm - Parade with a Fife and Drum band for the Colonial period, the NYSCO Emerald Knights (a Celtic band) for the Irish immigration during the mid-1800s, the Roma Band (an Italian band) for the Italian immigration in the early 1900s as well as some Shriner Bands and the 567th NY National Guard Band and vintage cars and floats from local groups. 2pm - Community Band will entertain at the Village Green after the parade 1pm-3pm - Helicopter display at E. J. Arthur Elementary School 6pm - Founder's Ball - A semi-formal dance at the Athens Firehouse. Due to space restrictions, a limited number of tickets at $25 will be available. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sunday, June 5 - Ecumenical Worship (time and location to be announced) 11am - 125th NY Regimental Volunteers Living History Drill and Demonstration at the Riverside Park 1pm - 125th NY Regimental Volunteer 'Enlistees Report for Duty' at the Riverside Park 1pm - Old Car Show on Second Street - open to anyone with a classic or vintage car 1pm - Carriage Ride on South Franklin Street which displays the panorama of the Hudson River and Lighthouse. 1pm - Childrens Games at the Village Green - Tug-of-War, Three-legged race, Sack Race, Egg-in-Spoon, etc. Former Summer Recreation employees have volunteered to manage the games. 5pm - Commemorative Little League Game with players from 1954-1969. Come see the Rockets and Yankees compete against the Ramblers and the Silver Arrows. Players will have their original team name on the back of their shirt. Former Umpire Phil Peters will, once again, be behind the plate. 'Sonny' Fandozzi and 'Scratchy' Surrano have signed up to be Managers for the day.
