    1. [NYGREENE] Schermerhorns at Lunenburg, NY
    2. Scott, John (IT)
    3. There are two marriages unaccounted for in the R Schermerhorn Genealogy. Perhaps R S had as much problem assigning them to a family as I have. The two marriages are: Henry Schermerhorn to Polly (Mary/Maria) Van Valkenburg 1796 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Athens and John Schermerhorn who married Hendrickse/Hannah Van Hoesen ca. 1797 probably at Athens. John resided at Athens 1800 thru 1820. Had children Hannah,Jane, John and Magdalene and a few others. Henry had son John b. 1805 - all born at Athens. Hannah eldest daughter of John married Peter Egbertse 1818. This ties the family of the Schermerhorns to line of Johann Schermerhorn and Elizabeth Dederick. The marriages of two of their sons to Egbertse and a daughter and two of the boys marrying Van Hosens ties it even closer - as opposed to the other Schermerhorn still somewhat residing in Athens as late as 1790 which is Johann Schermerhorn and Jannetje Van Hoesen ( by the way they had no son John and I find that interesting). This Johann H. Scherermhorn was still resident in Coxsackie as late as 1790 - with children young enough not to be matched in the genealogy. In the R Schermerhorn genealogy the two sons Henry and John of John S and Eliz dederick - could both be EASILY the boys mentioned above and not the two mentioned in the genealogy. In fact those two children were at Claverack principally. In 1799 Natie Groom of Athens witnessed the baptism of Johns oldest daughter Hannah. This Natie Groom was wife to Joseph Groom of Athens after his first wife a Maria van Loon died. they were married in 1796 - she was married as Hannah Schermerhorn. cant tell if she was a widow or not. whoever this Hannah/Natie is - I bet she is a sister to John and or Henry or mother. Joseph groom was b. in 1748. The Egbertse family ties into the Van Buskirks - and I believe that Hendrickse Van Hosen her parents could be Jannetje Van Buskirk and Jan Van Hoesen they witnessed John S and Hendrickse VH dau Jannetje. it is easy finding marriages to these families over and over. that's the hard part. I would love to know the age of Hannah/Natie wife of Joseph Groom. I think she died in 1818 at Athens. her husband owned a large tract of land , a nice house still standing called "Howard Hall". she is mentioned in a codicil of Joseph Groom but I don't have access to it. perhaps she mentioned family. There are Hannah/Annatje's in the line of Johann Schermerhorn and Eliz Dederick thru his sons Henry and Cornelius who had daughters(who might be the ones married to Jos Groom) and no sons and RS makes mention of that. it could be that Henry and John at Athens are unnamed sons of these two boys. the Egbertse connection revisited in 1818 might be a tie. I can make great theories and innuendo but with no baptisms I can only rely on collateral data. in the end I will never be sure. jack
