FYI... I have found that the nicknames of Dolly and Polly' invariably turn out to be a real name of Mary.... I am presuming the first Dolly died, unless the same child was batised twice for some strange reason. Dolly was named undoubtedly after her aunt Dorothy, daughter of Gysbert and Catalyntje Spoor, b. Dec 12, 1783 in Columbia Co (Gysbert Decker and Catlyntje Spoor, parents, Dorothy, child, b. 12.12.1783, bap. 2.15.1784, sponsors; Lourens Deckker and Dorothy Decker) and I believe she married Stephen Myers (Royden W. The Dolly born in 1808 would have been 16 at the time of her married to Giles Cotton. I have found no other Dollys to date. One has to be careful with transcriptions of original documents. Dolly could have been Polly and vice versa, to the transcribers eyes. My experience has been that Dolly, when correctly transcribed, is Dorothy or Dorothea and Polly is Mary or Maria.
