    3. Nope, can't say that I have. Here's a resource you might not have heard of: NYCPL CALL # IKG (New York (State). Adjutant-General's Office. Annual report) 1833-1948 (incomplete) AUTHOR New York (State). Adjutant General's Office. TITLE Annual report. IMPRINT Albany. DESCRIPT v. ill., plates, fold. maps, fold. plans. 23 cm. NOTE Vols. for 1857-1919, 1926-27 include: Official register; beginning with 1883, also issued and cataloged separately as: New York (State). Adjutant-General's Office. National Guard. Official register of the organized land and naval forces of the State of New York (in Old Catalog) NOTE Issues for 1893-1905 have supplementary volumes (serial no. 1 -43), which contain registers of New York regiments in the War of the Rebellion, and which are cataloged separately (in Old Catalog) ALT TITLE Adjutant-General's Office. Registers of New York regiments in the War of the Rebellion. ALT TITLE Annual report. See card catalog behind NYPL reference desk. AKA Report of the Adjutant-General of the State of New York; Registers of New York Regiments in the War of the Rebellion Books are published in successive years but serially numbered. Supplementary Vol. 1-43 mentioned above contain a brief record of service for the men in each unit. Since you already know the unit, you just have to find out which volume it's in. Typically you get when and where enlisted, when and where discharged, age at enlistment, if dead or wounded at which battle, etc. Maybe three or four lines of info at most. I don't know if the NYCPL does look-ups or not on these. If you can find where he enlisted from you might find him there in the 1860 census. Have you ever come upon the death date and burial place of Lt. Lyman Hoysradt, 20th New York State Militia, a soldier who survived the Civil War. His father and brother Nicholas, also a captain in the 20th, ended up in Lawrence, Kansas. I never could locate Lyman.
