Does anyone know if there is a database of Rev War soldiers that received land grants in Greene County? The rumor has always been that my ancestor, Caleb Foster received a land grant for property in Greene county, NY for his efforts in the Rev War. But, I have yet to locate anything to support the rumor. Dave
Dave, I have found no evidence that any land in Greene County was part of the formal land bounty rights, where Militia soldiers received land instead of pay. What did happen, is that folks swapped land. If someone had land in Greene Co, but received land as part of the land bounty rights process in northwestern New York, they swapped parcels. The land in Greene County was pretty much carved up into patents by the time of the Rev War. Alot of squatting did go on as there were absentee landlords in some cases. Dave, Have you checked Cyndislist for them. She has a lot of land records. If you Google it, you'll get some different choices. http://www.cyndislist.com/land.htm Pam Moore Leitt "The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated."
