Hi! - You could print the whole thing if you wanted to - 900 ish pages; or parts thereof. My search in Worldcat said that the 1904 version was the update by Riker's wife after he died. "The Revised History of Harlem" 1904 The printable/searchable site is ...... http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=moa;cc=moa;view=toc;idno=AFJ8243.0001.001 Eleanor Larsen On Dec 31, 2010, at 2:56 PM, Sylvia Hasenkopf wrote: > Thanks Jim - do you recommend one oversion over the other? > > Sylvia > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "James Harder" <jaharder88@yahoo.com> > To: <nygreene@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, December 31, 2010 2:36 PM > Subject: Re: [NYGREENE] Riker's >> Sylvia, >> The original James Riker book (Ron's edition) was Harlem: Its Origins and >> Early >> Annals published in 1881. Sylvia, Honestly, I'm not very familiar with the original version; the Revised History is the one often cited. Please don't misunderstand - this is one of most important works of New York history and genealogy. It's just not very relevant to your project. I have probably a dozen ancestors mentioned (including Waldron, Ron), with stories of their fights, weddings, travels, etc, based on early records but embroidered somewhat. Much of it can't be confirmed, and some of the info on the European origins of families is pure speculation, usually wrong. These folks in the 1600's are four generations before the Revolution and have many descendants that fought. If you can trace all of the Patriots with connections in Greene County back to New Netherland you would have quite a book! Happy New Year all!
