Hi Sylvia.  Have you come across a Dewitt (Clinton) Hinman in your Civil War soldier search.  He was my fathers grandfather.  I have a copy of his draft from a book but hard to read.  It looks like he was drafted June 18?3 into the 13th Congressional District County of Greene under Joshua Furo? Jr., Ulster Co. NY.   When he was older, he had a farm on the hill just south of Maplecrest via of East Jewett.  According to a report I had found some time ago he was in Co. Delia, Using Ancestry's index, I do not find any name that was close, even using the soundex system, in either New York or Illinois, of a solder serving under this name. DeWitt C. Clinton, a resident of Windham, aged 44, farmer, is on the draft list of Ulster County. I am certainly not an expert on why those drafted might not have served--that would take some further investigation--but the men on this list are all in their late 30s and 40s.
