C. Hinman, aged about 72 years. The Windham Journal, issue of Thursday, September 17, 1891, Local Briefs: On Sept. 10th, at his home in Big Hollow, Dewitt C. Hinman, departed this life, aged about 72 years. Mr. Hinman had resided in town longer than we can remember. He was an upright citizen and neighbor, and had held several town offices, with fidelity and credit to himself. He was an unfaltering Democrat, and always interested himself in his party's welfare. He loved his country and her institutions, and in this respect was a most worth exemplar. His death was caused by some disease of the digestive organs. I wonder if he might have been holding some elected office during the war that would have exempted him from serving. Various illnesses and disabilities were also valid excuses for not serving.
