I subscribe to the magazine, "Family Tree." Sometime ago they had an excellent article comparing the many Genealogical software programs that are available. Of course FTM was reviewed and had a high rating, but there were others some of you might want to look into. If you haven't seen this magazine, I highly recommend it. I use Personal Ancestral File (PAF) version 5.2.18.0, free from Family Search. I don't know if it's the best or not but I've used it for years and know it like the back of my hand. ~Ken~ In a message dated 2/16/2011 11:35:24 A.M. Most programs print the references at the end of a family group sheet which is cumbersome to evaluate for accuracy plus often tends to not be included by others if the FGS is passed around. Nedra

Thanks Lorna, I'd be REALLY interested in finding out whether his house still stands somewhere, so to get a pic of the house if it is now gone. You may know I am writing a book on the Rev War soldiers that were in Greene Co! Also looking for Reuben White's signature! Sylvia, The White who sold the house to Cornelius Hidecker was ,,, Moses or Chiles, of course right now I cant remember which one. Their father was Reuben White and he was in the Rev War. There was a write up about him in the WJ many many many years ago. One of Reubens daughters married a Hidecker so actually Moses ( or Chiles) sold the place to his cousin. Im going to have to look up which orignially owned the house. Reuben has pension papers on Heritage Quest and has a flag in the Windham Cem saying he was a soldier of the Rev War. > From: esi@francomm.com > To: nygreene@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2011 14:25:20 -0500 > Subject: Re: [NYGREENE] Wagon Wheel Boarding House > > Hi Carol, yes these messages are out to all on the list, and this is what > the list is really about, so don't be shy - keep sharing these memories. > > Lorna - your White ancestor, can't remember his first name. Hi Carol, yes these messages are out to all on the list, and this is what the list is really about, so don't be shy - keep sharing these memories. Lorna - your White ancestor, can't remember his first name. Was he in the Rev War to your knowledge? Yes, Carol, Now I remember, there were wagon wheels out front.. That is so interesting , how they came up with the name. Actually, I do know some of the Hidecker history, because the original house was owned by a White, who is my ancestor, and he sold it to Cornelius Hidecker, who was also a relative. Long story, Carol. Im the daughter of Bubby and Nola Barlow and we use to live up on Mitchell Hollow, so every day I would pass the Wagon Wheel. If you were on that bus , Carol, you have to remember Les Holcomb, the sweet bus driver.. Looking for any information on Van Loan Family in East Durham area. Morse Van Loan, John Henry Van Loan and Ransom Van Loan.
My father and grandfather named it Wagon Wheel. I think they had found a couple of old wagon wheels and thus the name was born.....the front entrance had a wagon wheel on each side. There was no wishing well in front when my family was in residence. Do youknow any Hidecker House history? I was never told any details. Just that the house was in shambles and my father and grandather renovated it about 1939. Are you part of the Barlow family?
