Arthur, I haven't begun to enter the 500+ pages of Layman info I received from a shirttail cousin, and researched primarily by Sylvia in Greene County...but I do know my LEHMANN/LEHMAN/LAYMAN line settled there very early on. Hi Jim. Actually a William Wells married Caroline Brown a daughter of David Brown and Mary Miller, granddaughter of John Brown and Hannah Schoonmaker. Previously he was married to a Elnor ? and had the following children: Christopher, abt 1844, Sarah, b. abt 1848, Estella, b. abt 1851, Joseph, b. abt 1854 Also, have done quite a bit on Elijah Wells, who married first Mary Alaben and had 8 children, then Polly Cook (widow of James Backus) and had three more children. Have the Cook (Koek) line back to a Roechert Koek from Lansingsburg. Elijah Wells is from CT, s/o Hezekiah Wells and Phebe Talcott. Also have a Catharina Wells who married abt 1810 Jacob France and had 4 children. Still trying to figure out her parents. >Jim... >I appreciate ALL your information and thoughts on the matter of Hannah. >Hopefully more will be found on this family. Are you a Schoonmaker >descendant? >Thank you, >Janice >> Nope, not a Schoonmaker, but I do follow many of the early Athens and Coxsackie families and wind up picking up little pieces of information on some of the other families in the area. I tend to do what I think of as "whole family" research. It's often impossible to place, say, which Jan Van Loon, belongs in a particular context without knowing about the other Jan Van Loons. So in sorting things out I often wind up with stuff I don't really need, but which might be useful later on if someone more knowledgeable about a particular family clues me in. In this case it was the Elizabeth Wells that caught my interest. Any Wells researchers out there? Jim
http://www.thedailymail.net/articles/2005/03/17/news/news4.txt Vedder library will retain bound news volumes By Antonio D'Arcangelis COXSACKIE - The Greene County Historical Society has entered a long-term loan agreement with Hudson Valley Newspapers to store 109 bound newspaper volumes - some almost 100 years old - in the Vedder Memorial Research Library in Coxsackie. The library, a non-circulating research center available to the general public, is located just off Route 9W on the society's historic Bronck property. The newspaper volumes include 33 books of bound original Coxsackie Union News editions from 1913, 1914, 1934-35, 1944-45, 1946 and 1949-61; 14 books of bounds editions of The Recorder from 1923-38; seven books of the Greene County Examiner-Recorder from 1938-44 and 1948-49; 23 books of the Examiner-Recorder from 1949-1962; and 32 books of Greene County News editions from 1962-78 and 1987. On Wednesday, Greene County Historian Raymond Beecher gave Hudson Valley Newspapers Publisher Roger Coleman a tour of the library, which houses a wide range of primary and secondary resource material depicting the historical development of Greene County. Beecher, just the county's third historian, explained how the library was built in honor of the first county historian, Jessie Van Vechten Vedder, who literally wrote the book on Greene County in her 1927 publication of "History of Greene County: 1651-1800." The newspaper volumes had previously been kept in Catskill in the Daily Mail press building, but were temporarily moved to Warren Street in Hudson at Hudson Valley Newspapers administrative headquarters. Beecher and the Greene County Historical Society offered to store the volumes in Coxsackie, and an agreement was reached so the books could be used for public historical research.
Hi Janice - so we were right after all regarding David's parents! That is awesome. This chart shows Johan and Hannah as parents? Hezikiah and Elizabeth could be Hannah's brother and his wife, or her parents, or other relatives. I do find a Heaekiah and Elizabeth Schoonmaker as parents to a number of children being baptized in Coxsackie. I also note in the Katsbaan church records that there is a Hiskia Schoonmaker (Hezekiah) and Johanna Wulfin, who baptised their son Hiskia on June 26, 1749. I also see this same couple baptising their daughter Annaatje (Hannah?) on April 12, 1762. My initial thought is that these two are possibly Hannah's parents. Jim... I appreciate ALL your information and thoughts on the matter of Hannah. Hopefully more will be found on this family. Are you a Schoonmaker descendant? Thank you, Janice >> I don't have enough information to form an opinion on how Hannah Schoonmaker was related to Hezekiah Schoonmaker. At first glance, given the Hezekiah tree, it seems less likely that Hannah was his daughter. However, I don't have a birthdate for either Hezekiah or his wife Elizabeth, so they could have had children earlier than the first Kinderhook baptism I cite. If Marragrietta (Margaret) was the last child born to the couple, and if they had married early, and if they had a typical 20 year span of child-bearing, there could be records of earlier baptisms in other churches back to say 1775. Lots of ifs. Maybe someone else has more on Hezekiah?

Jim.. Thank you. There is no mention of a Hannah Schoonmaker in the tree. Could be that Hezekiah was a sibling of Hannah and not her father. Still a mystery as to the relationship of David & Hannah Schoonmaker Brown to Hezekiah and Elizabeth Schoonmaker. Janice >> Maybe this will help? 1. Elizabeth1 Wells; married Hezekiah Schoonmaker. Her Grandmother had a chart that her uncle found in her attic on the Brown family. My newfound 4th cousin resides in Columbia Co., NY. My Brown line is from Edwin E. and hers from his sibling Ann E. who m. John H. MOORE. In those papers a Hezekaih & Elizabeth SCHOONMAKER were sponsors at the baptism of David BROWN at the Reformed Church, Coxsackie. He was born 4 Oct 1801 and he died 12 Sept 1832. David's widow Mary nee Miller m. 2nd Martin HERRICK. David's parents were John and Hannah Schoonmaker Brown. Although the 1810 Coxsackie census in Beers states there is a Hezekaih Schoonmaker enumerated I have not found him in the index of ancestry.com or genealogy.com. I will search manually. My thought is that Hezekiah and Elizabeth may be parents of Hannah Schoonmaker. Any help is appreciated! Sylvia, Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I believe that the John Andrews I am looking for left Greene County before 1820. It looks like you would be wasting your time checking the records. I appreciate your offer. It is so frustrating trying to do long distance research.
