    1. Re: [GREENE COUNTY] Re: Windham Centre/Windham Journal
    2. Pat, Wow! Thanks very much. That must have been quite something, as the three families involved had extensive roots in Jewett and Lexington. I have color photocopies of the "fancy" Angle/Whitcomb marriage certificate. It's quite beautiful; my cousin Carol, in Hurley, has the original. There is also a more "official" certificate, without as much ornamantation. I believe that the original, of the second one, is with the Mountain Top Historical Society. I have B&W photocopies of that also. If you'd like a copy of either, or both, let me know and I'll send them. 2. The Windham Journal, issue of Thursday, September 10, 1868, Married: In Windham, Sept. 8, at the Presbyterian Parsonage, by Rev. C. Kendall, Mr. Ogden Whitcomb of Jewett, and Miss Melissa Johnson of Lexington. At the same time and place, Mr. Parley W. Angle, of Shandaken, Ulster Co., [and] Miss Augusta H. Whitcomb, of Jewett. >Pat, I was curious to know if there is a way to check for a marriage announcement in the Windham Journal. The marriage took place in Windham Centre Sept. 8, 1868, and the couple was Parley Angle, of Shandaken (born in Lexington), and Augusta Whitcomb of Jewett. Augusta's brother Ogden Whitcomb married Melissa Johnson on the same day, and the couples served as witnesses for each others ceremonies. Thank you, Bill Smith

    3. Looking for parents/information on Dewitt Clinton Croswell, born 1804 Athens, married Caroline Hasbrouck, lived in Sullivan Co 1850, then to Hurley, then Saugerties. I have no confirmative info prior to 1850. Does anyone have any information on Mackay Croswell? I know he was a Catskill printer, newspaperman, had local real estate holdings, etc. I do not know for sure his parents, wife's name, where buried. I suspect he is the brother of Dr Thomas OHara Croswell and Rev Harry Croswell, sons of Capt Caleb & Hannah Kellog, buried in Gilboa. All three were politically/civically active somehow. Read about them if you want more local history that makes US History so alive today, such as the Stroop story made me feel. Goosebumps..... Any Croswell info appreciated, especially as it would tie in with Saugerties Croswells. Peigi

    3. I too believe I have Van Hoesen connections as well. Hendrickse Van Hoesen b. ca 1776 at Athens - perhaps had sisters Sarah and Mary - they all married Schermerhorns. One of them had sons named Jacob Van Hoesen Schermerhorn and Francis Van Hoesen Schermerhorn.
