    3. Jeanne, There are several good sites for research in Canada. Which ones would be most useful depends on if he has an idea which province in Canada and whether is ancestors are French or not. http://www.rootsweb.com/~canwgw/html/e-index.html Canada GenWeb is a good place to start http://www.genealogie.org/ (French) http://www.ingeneas.com/ Canadian Genealogy Those may be useful to your friend. Then there is always the FamilySearch site (LDS library catalog online) http://www.familysearch.org/ where you can see all the parish records and other records that have been microfilmed and can be ordered into your nearest family history center. If you ever need lookups of things that don't circulate (books, etc), just email be privately. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp ?display=localitysearch&columns=*,0,0 here is the "place search" where you can just enter the province (if known)or country. Records are kept at different levels of jurisdiction, just like in our country. So be sure to check the country, the province, the county and the town or parish. And here http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/RG/frameset_rhelps.asp?Page=./res earch/Placec/Placec.asp&ActiveTab=Place are research helps for Canada (scroll down to Canada) that may be useful. Some are PDF documents and some haven't yet been loaded online and are available for purchase (like the Canada Research Outline). If it's of any interest, you can purchase a cd which has all of their research outlines, word lists, letter writing guides, etc- it's called the Family History Source Guide and you can find it here ($6)and you don't have to be LDS to order it. http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?cata logId=10001&storeId=10001&categoryId=100107&langId=-1&parent_category_rn =100102&bcname=Miscellaneous%20Databases&top=&resetCat=N&initBC=Y&level= 2&replBC=subcatlist100102 Hope you find that information helpful. 2. It's definitely Germanic. On Mom's side, my gggg grandpa's first name is spelled Conrad AND Coonrad on the same document. He was German Swiss. On my Dad's side, my ggg grandpa's name has been spelled Conrad, Coonrod, Coenrad, Coenradt, Coonrad and Camrad. He was of German descent. 2. Linda Lewis
    3. Robert Franklin Brass was Roxy's husband. He was born 1866 in Westfield, Mass Hampden county (1880 census) Robert was still alive in the 1930 census, and I haven't been able to find him in the Westfield area cemeteries. Robert's son, Howard had moved to Florida, in the Florida death index there is a Robert Franklin Brass who died in 1948 in Osceola county. Lulu Brass (my husband's grandmother) b 1/31/1894, d 3/11/1963 m Llewellyn Lewis 9/24/1920 in Albany, New York I've always wondered how she met him. Llewellyn was a resident of West Pawlett, Vermont. Lulu lived in Westfield, Mass. Lulu had just been visiting her uncle George Avery in Michigan a few months before they married in New York. Howard Brass never married. He was b 5/2/1889 Westfield, Mass, d 7/19/1963, Vero Beach, Indian River County, Fl I never found out much about Franklin Brass, he was b 1884 Westfield, don't know what else happened to him Gladys Mae Brass was b 10/5/1891 Westfield, Mass, d 11/1955, married to Robert Mercer abt 1914. They had three children - Donald J Mercer, Dorothy N Mercer and Roberta Y Mercer The Brass family goes way back, all the way to the Dutch settlers of New York. Only back they they called themselves Bros or Bras. The Lewis family were from Wales. Arriving in America sometime in the 1880's. They are absolutely my worst brick wall. I'm just as stumped on Annabelle as you, have only the info you do A note on Lucy Avery, Roxy's sister - she was called 'Lulu', she never married, she had a life long female companion, and oddly enough for that time frame, as far as I've heard her family doesn't seem to have had any negative reactions about her lifestyle choice. 3. Dear Linda Just today I worked on solving the Nellie Dickerman question. And preparatory to this bout with the net I chose from my shoebox file the slips on George and Annabelle! So you can see we are in cinq. Nellie b.6 Oct 1865 NY probably Jewett, Greene Co. She d. 9 Aug 1933. Roxie Avery m. Robert Brass. She was b.ca.1867 d.ca.1930. Had Frank, Howard, Gladys, Lulu and Dorothy Brass. She was buried Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield, MA Dau Dorothy m. Charles Brown & had Charles, Jr., Carol and Nancy. Do you have a location for the Brass family? any Dates? 19 Apr 1884 is the date I have for Nellie"s marriage to Enos Dickerman by whom she had three children: Lillian E. and Edith L. survived to marry but Herbert Leroy did not. Nellie was widowed after 1900 but before 1910. Enos b. Marjorie V. age 11 in Hh listed as McFarland. (I remember visiting them with my Uncle Al during the next decade. If memory serves me right Benjamin had adopted the Brown children.) 3. Do you know anything about Nelson's daughter Nellie? I have her birth year at about 1866 from the 1870 and 1880 census. And somewhere in my house I have a photo of Nellie and Roxy. (I just moved!) On the photo it says Nellie's name is Nellie Bickerman? or Dickerson? Its hard to make out. Also do you have the death date of George Avery? I know he lived in Michigan In 1920's census Roxy's daughter Lulu Christine Brass was visiting George and his wife Annabelle. But that's the last time I see George.
