Hi, I transcribed the gravestones from this rather large cemetery in Saugerties back in 1985 and if the stones exist would be able to take you directly to them based on my transcription. AT the moment (11:15) I am just replying, but tomorrow will find the transcription and the names you seek. Mt View Cemetery in Saugerties is located on Main St, just outside of the Village. While in Saugerties, visit Rich Frisbee, at Hopefarm Press, bookstore on Main St. Not only will he tell you where the cemetery is, you can have a look around at the NY State history books he has. Could it be the Mountain Valley Cemetery in Ashland, Greene Co.? It is also known as the Sutton Hollow Cemetery. It is located on County Route 10, about a quarter of a mile east from the intersection with Sutton Hollow Road. The right of way to the cemetery is directly opposite a large blue house (may not be blue now), and adjacent to the barn. I got this information from the Tombstone Transcription project and visited the cemetery last summer to get pictures of the graves of some of my ancestors. It is a beautiful cemetery and well maintained. I don't, personally, know of a Mountain View Cemetery in Greene County, but there is much I don't know about and I thought this could be a possibility for you. Does anyone out there know where this cemetery is located? I'm planning a visit to Greene County in June and would like to take a side trip to this cemetery to take a picture of the headstone. I have 2 ancestors buried there. They are Lemuel Raymond (1789-1839) and his wife, Fanny Roach (1798-1860). I know it's in Saugerties, Ulster County. I just thought if anyone lives near there perhaps they could help. I'd like to know directions. Thanks Barbara Florida
I know of a Mountain View Cemetery near the New York - Vermont border. But I'm thinking that's not the one you are looking for? Rachel M. HITCHCOCK m. circa 1828 Richard M. BROWN. I believe Rachel came from Westchester Co., NY. She died 03 Jul 1875. They had 10 known issues. Does anyone have info on this Rachel b. circa 1810? Richard d. 11 Aug 1849 in Athens. Both are bur. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Athens. Thank you, Janice Brown
The Hitchcocks who settled in Ashland are only distantly related to the ones who settled in Windham (Big Hollow). You have to go back to Matthias Hitchcock, who came to this country in 1635, to find the common ancestor of these two Greene County branches. According to "The Genealogy of the Hitchcock Family Who Are Descended from Matthias Hitchcock of East Haven, Conn., and Luke Hitchcock of Wethersfield, Conn.," by Mrs. Edward Hitchcock, Sr., 1894: Ashland branch Jacob 5 Hitchcock (Caleb 4, Nathaniel 3, Nathaniel 2, Matthias 1) son of Caleb & Isabel (Goodsell) Hitchcock b. 4 Jul 1739 in North Haven, CT m. 9 Oct 1760 to Phebe Ives moved to West Springfield, MA in 1787 moved to Windham, NY in 1792 d. 1810 in Windham 9 children: Abigail, Enoch, Jacob, Phebe, Beda, Abigail, Jacob, Caleb, John Big Hollow branch Dea. Lemuel 5 Hitchcock (Jason 4, Matthias 3, John 2, Matthias 1) son of Jason & Lydia (Cook) Hitchcock b. 20 Dec 1749 in Cheshire, CT m. 14 Mar 1776 to Mamre Hotchkiss moved to Durham, NY first settler of Big Hollow, NY d. 25 Jun 1827 in Big Hollow (book incorrectly gives date as 27 Jun 1829) 10 children: Lydia, Thomas, Rhoena, Mamre, Phebe, Lemuel, Zalmon, Antrim, Lucius, Thirza Patricia Morrow, Windham Town Historian > Hi List, > I am researching the Hitchcock Family that lived in Windham and Ashland, > Greene, New York > Descendants of Jacob Hitchcock and Phebe Ives. > Some names that are connected with the Hitchcock Family are > ADDIS, STEELE, COBB, CORNELL, LEWIS > If anyone has any information on these families I appreciate any help. > Nancy Hitchcock Dancy
By sheer chance, I read an obituary this morning for a Robert Hitchcock, formerly of Vestal and Endicott, New York. He was aged 93, and currently lived in Bay City, Michigan. He was married 1st to Thora E. Hitchcock, and 2nd to Angeline Hitchcock, who survives him. Would anyone like the complete obit? Pam S. in Essexville, Michigan

Nancy: Have 18 listings for Lewis, from Bertha to Virginia Pricilla, nothing else. My lines were in Windham area Gordon
Hello, I am a descendant of the Van Derzees of Greene Co. NY and I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to trace my ancestors back before Harry Van Derzee (circa 1840). Harry Van Derzee was married to Helena Rowe. They had a son named (Henry) Harry Van Derzee (b. Jan. 1877, d. Sept. 1955) who married Sarah Myrtle Rice (b. Aug. 1884, d. Apr. 1976). Harry and Sarah had one son, my grandfather, Harold Rice Van Derzee (b. Dec. 1917, d. Jan. 1968). I cannot find any links to this family or to Sarah M. Rice's family. I am fairly new to genealogical research. If anyone can give me some direction, I would be appreciative. Many thanks in advance! Kim Kim Echols the5echols@earthlink.net Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.
Thank You, I have copied the information down, and will try and obtain the book also. That is really great. Thanks so much Nancy
Hello, I have copies of a property record of my great-great grandfather Francis "Frank" Maynard, who lived in Greene Co. NY possibly from his birth in 1820 until around 1874. I think the property was in Big Hollow, now called Maplecrest, part of Windham, I believe. My ancestors' signatures were witnessed by Austin B. Hitchcock, Justice of the Peace, on April 21, 1877, so I have a copy of his signature. I also own a book called "Big Hollow: A Mountaintop History Maplecrest, Windham, NY" written by Elwood Hitchcock. Published 1993 by... Black Dome Press Corp. RR1, Box 422 Hensonville, NY 12439 (518) 734-6357 Here's part of the introduction: ".....It was in this lonely, isolated, uninhabited basin of virgin timberland that Deacon Lemuel Hitchcock, his wife Mamre and their nine children came on an ox-sled in the mid-winter of 1795. A crude cabin was built by Lemuel and his oldest son, Thomas, the previous autumn. Lemuel, who had been a captain in the Revolutionary War, was a religious man, and desired to bring up his children in a spiritual atmosphere." In the book, there's a photo of Mose Hitchcock, blacksmith, with Elwood Morrow. There's also a photo of Platt Hitchcock's house and barns in 1886, "currently the Wilfred C. Hitchcock home" on Route 56. There's a group photo that includes William, Harold, and Dwight Hitchcock, taken around 1912. Another photo of Rose Hitchcock, teacher, and her pupils, including Grace and Harold Hitchcock. Taken in 1898. Yet another school photo with Eva and Elwood Hitchcock. And biographical sections on the Zalmon, Platt, and Lemuel Hitchcock families. Regards, Allyson McKenna
