    3. I have a question about Griffins in New York State and border changes.....in Columbia and Greene Co.:From the census and some websites I have found: before 1823, Little and Willow Island, NY were part of Columbia County and Kinderhook. In 1823 they became part of Greene Co, NY., town of .New Baltimore....this is from a Greene County website. From the US census I have found 5 Griffins in Columbia Co, New York, in 1820. Timothy Griffin in Kinderhook with 3 male children under 10, Jabez Griffin, in New Lebanon with 2 little boys under 10, Isaiah Griffn, in Hudson, no little boys under 10, Hosiah Griffin in Hillsdale, and Gilbert Griffin in Chatam, no boys under 10. I wonder if anyone has any info on these Griffins? I did a search back and forth....one seems to have migrated from Dutchess Co.. Has anyone connected with this Timothy Griffin? The others seem to be in later and earlier census reports too.... I have to do a search...but you know, there are so many Isaiah's, etc! 3. Dear Family and Friends, Thank you so very much for your prayers and the notes of encouragement. I am copying some of Alice's email from today. She just got on line at about 5:15 pm Fri. Here it is: Just a quick note.  I got back on line 10 minutes ago.  We are okay here. We lost utilities from Monday until yesterday.  The schools are not in yet because all the school buses were sequestered to drive the N.O. people to Houston and now to Dallas and San Antonio.  We are full up here.  The church gyms, LSU Assembly Center and Baton Rouge Assembly Center are all full up with people and local entities and the Red Cross are feeding them.  Most of them got separated and don't know where their relatives and/or children are. It is really pathetic. Our subdivision only has one entrance and then it is a square, so its a 5 street subdivision.  But the weather tore up the beautiful brick facade with the subdivisions name on it and all the plants and they did a number on quite a few trees, two right through the middle of two beautiful big houses.  No one was hurt that we know of.   They bought up 28 babies from New Orleans, some of them born during the storm.  A few are in the ICU and neonatal unit.  They have them here at two diff. hospitals.  Most of the time they and their mothers were separated but they are uniting them now.   The people here are trying to figure out how to get to their social security checks.  Most of these people do not have checking accounts so they get their checks and cash them. An added note by me. One of their grandsons is in the National Guard and spent his 21st birthday in Afganistan. He was called up for New Orleans this week and spent his 23rd birthday there in riot gear etc. That catches you up on the family in LA. Thanks again to everyone. 3. Hi, Virginia... I suggest you contact the Red Cross. When a disaster strikes, they have a 24-hour moratorium on releasing names and info in the affected area. If your loved ones went to a shelter, the Red Cross likely will have their names. Also, I host the DisasterRelay list on Rootsweb and everyone is welcome to join. Volunteers on the list will make phone calls to relay information (when we can get through) and are not allowed to ask for reimbursement if a toll call is involved. This has worked successfully a number of times. As you may know, when a disaster strikes, telephone companies limit incoming calls to the area to allow those who live there to make outgoing calls (presuming, of course, that the phone lines are still functional). It isn't unusual for us to have a volunteer near an affected region and thus be able to get through where someone living further away cannot. If you would like to join us, send a new email to DisasterRelay-L-request@Rootsweb.com. Type SUBSCRIBE in the subject line and text area. Do not include anyother text. 3. Dear Friends and Familly, I know we are all devasted by what Katrina has done to the Gulf Coast. Some of the descendents of the Garrett, Tompkins, Powell, Winn families live in Baton Rouge. They are my first cousins and their families. Last I heard they were ready to go to a shelter if necessary. I have emailed and called and no response. For them and for all of the victims I ask you to pray. Dan and I lived in Biloxi twice when he was in the Air Force. We happened to get moving orders and left 2 weeks before Camille. We were stationed back several years later and still some thngs were not as they were. When we see the images now, we are heart broken as it will take much longer. 3. Bobbi: Thank you for the input. I've always gotten the spelling of the name "Francis or frances" confused. It's ironic because I had a half sister named "Frances" and I was always spelling her name one way and then another. I hope my posted message doesn't cloud the intent of my search for readers. 2. In your research you might want to try the (female) spelling as 'Frances.' Francis is usually the spelling for a man's name. Bobbi On Tue, 30 Aug 2005 14:45:20 -0400 "B. C. 3. Patricia- I am so happy to have this information! Thank you so much. I am constantly awed by the amount of time, patience and just plain tedious work that so many people have given to make information freely available to others. Just transcribing the names and dates from gravestones is such a huge task! Thanks to all who contribute!
