It appears that two of my ancestors divorced, most likely in Greene County in the 1870's. According to one source, the "supreme" court for a county in NY has handled divorces since 1847. Can someone tell me which court in Greene County would have the divorce record I need, if the record exists? Thanks. Ed Kohinke

Hi Ed, Drucilla Christian (b. 1813) m. William Tompkins (b. 1816) and was the mother of my ggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Tompkins Matthews (b. 1844). Mary Elizabeth and her husband, Lauren Alonzo Matthews, lived in Ashland, Greene Co. William Tompkins is buried in the West Settlement Cemetery, Ashland. In the 1855 Ashland Census, there is a Bebee/Bebec living with William, Drucilla and their family. Do you know anything about her? I have no other information on her parents except for the offspring, nor am I sure that I spelled the name correctly. It might be Druzilla or something else. Do you see any connection? My ggrandmother's formal portrait is staring down at me as I write this to you and I really need to find out more about her history. Thanks for any help you may offer. RIDER / RYDER the main surname I seek in Greene Co., some of them were the ones that owned a brickyard. (Anyone know of a picture of it?) They had ties to Albany Co and Green Co at the same time in the 1800s. Also, the southline of my 5th great grandfather's farm was the Albany/Greene Co borderline. WHITE, THORN, FINCH, PRESTON these surnames tie into RIDER and I know a bit about HAZZARD, NORTH, GILBERT, HAGAMAN, WAITE these surnames tie into RIDER and I know just names and a date or two Lisa

Hi Jim, I am definitely interested in the background of Ella Groat who married George Tompkins and thank you for the offer. Would you send me your email address, so that I can communicate directly with you? I attempted to send you a message with attachment to the list, but was doubtful that it would get through and my doubts were well founded. It came back to me. Again, thanks. I look forward to hearing from you. Mignon "Your vision will only come clear when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens. I'm still working on the siblings and offspring of the Powell line: Thomas 1 > Thomas 2 > Moses 3 > James 4 > Moses 5 > Calvin 6 > Lewis 7 > Frank 8 > Alfred (Duke) 9 > Bobby 10. The first 3 generations were in Long Island, and then each generation moved further up the Hudson Valley until Moses 5 and Calvin 6 landed in Greene County. I visited the wonderful Vedder Library this summer and have loads of information I'm still working on entering on my computer. My next challenge on this line is to work on Calvin's wife Rachel Smith born abt 1811 and who lived in Greene County from the time she was born until she and Calvin moved on to Illinois in their middle years. I am stalled on these names in Greene County: HACKETT, BIXBY, BAGLEY, WESLEY. I am also searching for FROST in Rensselaer County, and VINCENT who seems to have been all over upstate New York. Thanks, Sylvia, for this jump-start. Bless you! Sally Bailey
Hi, I'm another Lord descendant, like Tom McHugh and Mignon Matthews. Some of my other ancestors are Story, Holdridge, West, Gaylord, Fanning, Richtmeyer, Newcomb, Chapman, Blaisdell, to name a few. I grew up in Catskill (a long time ago!) Sylvia, Would you also like my earlier Schermerhorn Bible Records as well? It's Peter Schermerhorn and Rachael Edmonds of Dutchess County who later removed to Otsego and Chenango Counties. It cover the greatgrandparents and their children of the Albert Schermernorn from the ebay Bible. It gives marriage date for Albert's grandfather but not spouse's name. I do have it from another souce. Please contact me about how to send the info to you. Hello, My Maynards lived in Big Hollow (now Maplecrest) near Windham, Greene County, from around 1820's to 1874-ish. Francis "Frank" Maynard, son of Charles and Paulina Merriman Maynard, probably had a brother named Hiland who died while serving in the Civil War. Frank served also, enlisting at age 45 toward the end of the war and he caught Malaria at "Dismal Swamp", Virginia and suffered with it for the rest of his life. Frank married Emma who was also listed as Eliza; judging from her age and proximity to where Frank lived before he married, she may have been a Davis. 1850 Census for Windham: DAVIS, William 50, Farmer, Eveline 48, Corydon 17, Fanny 15, Mary 11, Angelina 19, Eliza 14. [Eliza is likely to be my Emma--Eliza E. Maynard] Sylvia has researched Frank's land records for me. Paulina seems to have remarried Samuel (?) Mallory. The Windham town historian provided me with some information about Paulina. Frank's children Charles (born abt 1858), Elmer (born abt 1859), and Clara "Carrie" (born abt 1863) were born in Big Hollow. Anyone related? --Allyson McKenna _atmack@aol.com_ (mailto:atmack@aol.com)
Hello Cousin! My Great -Grandfather, Clarence O'Brien was you GGF's brother. We're definitely researching the same tree. I have a great deal of info on the Lord family (Angeline Lord- our G-G-Grandmother), but have been unable to get too much on the O'Bryans. I've pieced together some census info, but there are gaps in the data, especially with Thomas O'Bryan's ancestry. By the way, I've always been told (and there are members of this branch of the Lord tree who have been told the same) that Angeline Lord's G-G-Mother was a full-blooded Native American. The particular tribe, as well as documentation of this, is missing. Have you heard of this? I'd be glad to share any info that I have with you, and would be interested in any O'Bryan info that you have. Best wishes, Tom McHugh Alburg, VT
