I have very little info on this line at present, as I haven't done much research on them yet. They are more of a brick wall than anything else. I have a mystery in the family regarding a Sarah Simmons. She was the mother of Julia AMES who married William Henry Palmatier. My biggest problem in solving this mystery.... was Simmons Sarah's maiden name? or did she marry an Ames first and then a Simmons? Or was Julia a Simmons, who married an Ames before she married Palmitier? My source of this puzzle is an inscription in a family bible. 'Sarah Simmons to daughter, Julia Ames' Julia was born in 1834. I surmise she was born in Dutchess Co. and lived in Ulster Co. I keep hoping someone will be able to give me answers to this mystery. My George Robertson's parent was Robert Robertson. The mother is at this point unknown, however, there is a possiblility that her name was Harriet Bradley. Robert was born in Scotland. George seems to have had a brother John Bradner who was a carpenter after the CW. John was born 17 June 1824 making him in his 40's when the war was fought. He d. 8 Sept 1885 and was married first to Jane Flowers and then to Susan Brim. They had six children. The first four with the first wife and the remainder with Susan. As far as I know George didn't as he was too old, but his sons did. However, I don't know if he had a son named George as well. I know he had sons John R. and William B., and a dau. Emma S. My George was b. abt 1815 and died between 1883 -1901, he was married Catherine ? Gary, You might try looking into the Ashland (near Windham) area for your Sophia Tompkins. I know that there apparently was a rather moderate-sized contingent of Tompkins in that area. Brian
Patricia, I did an Obituary Archives search on the Oneonta Daily Star online site. Alas, no luck. It wasn't as strange an attempt as it seems; having grown up near Oneonta, I have seen obits in the Daily Star for those far further away from Oneonta than your Dorothy Ryan. I'll keep looking. Brian
Gary, You are right. Mt. Pleasant is (or was) in Westchester County. I believe that it now goes by the name of Valhalla (though I might be incorrect on that), which is situated just north of White Plains.
Is any one on the list researching the Elliotts of Green County. My GG Grandfather John Elliott b 1792 in Ireland was in Greene County 1825 when my G Grandfather George K. Elliott was born in 1825. Thanks. Tom

I need the obituary of Dorothy H. Ryan who died July 11, 2001. Her last place of residence was East Durham, NY. It wasn't in the Windham Journal. Well I'll try anything - but the family was living in Olive, Ulster County when he died. I am pretty sure I checked there (but I'll recheck my notes) and then try Greene so no stone is left unturned.
