Sylvia, How does the Transcriptions work? I might be able to help. Melanie Fisher Citty
Hi Peggy I don't remember where I got her birth date from? Guess I'll have to do a little digging on that one. However, I don't think it is a baptismal date because she was baptised as an adult on 10/9/1830 at Woodstock DRC. She's listed as "Polly Rose wife of Jacobus" . Her surname is quite different with the baptismal information on four of her children. They were baptised at Woodstock DRC. - Benjamin: Mariah Bontoff and James Rosa - William: Polly Major and James Rose - Anna Catharina - my gg grandma: James Rose and Polly Bento - Sarah Margaret: Jacobus Rose and Polle Bunte Between Benjamin and Margaret there are two other children who died as infants. I haven't looked for baptismal information on them. Four more children were born in Walton, Delaware Co. NY. The surname Brink came from "The Leading Citizens of Delaware County, NY - 9th Edition" pages 30-31. The article is about William (listed above). It is possible that her maiden name may not Brink??? Cindy In a message dated 9/22/2005 8:54:42 PM Pacific Daylight Time, outtolaunch@juno.com writes: Hi Cindy, > Do you have anything about a Maria/Polly Brink who was born in > Ulster Co. on Jan. 18, 1805? She was married to Jacobus/James Rosa. Sorry. I don't have any details about her. I wonder what the source for the date of birth (or is it baptism?) is? It is wonderful to see the responses to the roll call. Researching the following surnames in Greene Co. FOSTER, HUSTED/HUSTAD, LAWSON, NICKERSON, CARR/VAN DER CARR/KARR, SICKLES/SICKLES (Not researching COLVIN surname, but see the note below). Caleb Foster was born in Stonington, CT, served in the Rev. War, married in Dutchess Co., NY to Rachel Husted. His son Richard married Sarah/Sally Lawson. Richard and Sarah's son, John Foster married Elizabeth Sickles. John served in the Civil War. Their son, William, married Ada Nickerson and removed to Marshall and Peoria counties, Illinois. Charles Foster, son of John and Elizabeth married Elizabeth Colvin. If you are interested in the Colvin line, drop me a note and I will give you an e-mail address for the person who has done more work on that surname.
Patricia- A week or so ago I tried sending some ancestor photos to the list, but I think they didn't survive the translation. I will send again. My question is whether you might know anyone who is an expert in analyzing old photos as to their age. I have a photo of a male ancestor that I would very much like to know more about. I haven't asked in 2 years so here goes again...Seeking information on the family of William Dobson born about 1770, died 4/3/1841, and is buried Mt Hope Cemetery, Athens, along with several other Dobsons. He had been in Greene County as early as 1800. Believe one son is Hiram who was married to Ellen Dickinson who moved on to Oswego County by 1850, another son, possibly James who was married to Fannie Holbrook who moved to Westchester County and died in 1850. My line is William Wilbur Dobson who was married to Elizabeth Dickinson and moved to Oswego County about 1845. I am interested in who William, Sr.s wife was (possibly a Wilbur) and any of the other children. I have asked several times in the past and have had no response. Seems I see the same names over and over again on this list but never any Dobsons. Does this name mean anything to anybody on this list? Thank you! LuAnn Tanner Dobson P.S. Sylvia, I'm doing well, how about you? You sure got things moving on this list. Yes, I think I'm clear about this now. I'll be sending some information to you soon. Joan
In your Lane's, do you by any chance have an Isaac Lane who was living in Yates Co. at least in the years of 1852-1867 when Robert Robertson and his wife Sophia died respectively? I have an Isaac Lane as a guardian for their children who hadn't reached majority yet. I believe that Isaac's wife's name was Percilla and they had several children of their own. Hi Joan, how are you? I guess what I am trying to do is make this 1812 page specific to individuals and to researchers alike. By adding as much info as you have on someone and by me linking this person to you, for example, I am hoping that folks will end up connecting and sharing more info. If you use the format I sent out in the initial email, that should help organize the info. Does this clarify? Thurlow apprenticed to Mackay Croswell, who was the first printer, I think, in Catskill. Mackay started the Albany Packet and other newspapers; his brother Edwin went to Hudson and did newspapers there. After being sued by Thomas Jefferson, Edwin went back to CT and became a prominent minister. There is information on the Greene Co page about Thurlow and his newspaper days.
