Hello, I've been searching the Hess family in particular Henry Hess b. 1782 who married Sally Permelia Axtell b. 1797. They had 3 children that I know of Mary Ann b. 1827 who married Stephen Getter; Joseph A. b. 1839 who married Jeanette Groat; and Susanna b. 1823 who married James Turner. Have you by any chance run into these names? Thanks, Rene' -------Original Message------- From: Kim Echols Date: 09/25/05 13:27:30 To: NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GREENE COUNTY] Re: [GREENE COUNTY) Rice Family Hi Bernice, I'm not sure if our families connect or not, but the surname RICE caught my eye - amongst the many emails that have been generated since the official roll call. My earliest ancestor Rice was through my mother's father (Harold Rice Van Derzee). I can take things back only to his grandfather, John Rice (born abt. 1854). John Rice was married to Susan Hess and they had at least 6 children according to a census image I found. Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar or if you think we may have common ancestors. I haven't had much luck beyond John Rice - although I've been told to start looking in Pennsylvania for both the Hess and Rice families. Hello Sue, Can you tell me anything more (dates, given names, etc.) about your BAGLEY family? I am the 5g granddaughter of John BAGLEY, 1735-1814, who married Prudence Ellen WESLEY. Beers' History of Greene County says "John Bagley settled on the farm now owned by John Morehouse. Upon the formation of a company of militia in this part of the town, he was chosen their captain. He built the first grist-mill in this part of the town. It was on Thorp Creek, about a mile west of East Durham and one-half mile north of his house." I've never seen these places, but wish I could. I would be happy to share information, if you think we have a connection. Thanks for your time. Hello everyone! Frank Khuen was born in Germany about 1858(?) and died in Windham in 1937. Not sure exactly when he came to the US but he lived in NYC for many years and raised his children there. He moved to Windham in 1922 with his 2nd wife Emma (nee Morelly). They ran a boarding house/resort called New Comston Park. One of his sons, Arthur Khuen, was also in Windham. He was a WWI veteran and was very active with the VFW. He died in 1957 and is buried in Windham Cemetery (Thanks for putting transcriptions for this cemetery online Sylvia!!). Arthur's wife's name was Betty (nee Gast). I would love to hear from anyone with information on this family. Deb Charlotte, NC
