Susan, the easiest way is probably to post the photos on the Greene Co website. To do this you need to send the photos to me at esi@francomm.com with a little descriptor - who, parents, dates, wife, children, etc. and I'll post it on the site! Hi Susan--My mother and aunt attended Eastman Business college in Poughkeepsie [circa 1918 and 1920]; they took shorthand, typing, and office management, and recieved a certificate at the end of the course--2 yrs. I believe. This certificate qualified them to be secretaries and office managers---they both worked in NYC for several years after graduation. Do not believe there was a "degree" offered for this course. Somehow, I got dropped from the list, (happened on another as well). But I am starting on a trip back there in the AM. I just thought it was pretty slow! Now I understand I missed some discussion on Rices. Just my luck! Ephraim, (born as Royce but called Rice in NY.), CT. abt. 1771, came to Greene Co. NY. by 1790. Wife Sarah Johnson, abt same age, sister to Elizabeth Johnson who married John Ashley of Catskill. Kids, Ira James Rice, 1808, Joel H. Rice, 1814 and possibly a Sarah, abt. 1812. There were three unknowns, two girls and a boy, all born earlier, but after 1800. Moved on west, Chenango, Broome Co. NY. by 1820 and Tioga, PA. 1830, Carrollton, Cattaraugus Co. NY. by 1840. Going to visit all those places. Will be online if and when possible. Clyde Rice, (DNA is Royce)

any relationship to Legg of Michigan??
Hi Jane, didn't mean to ignore your last email on these two, but I've been trying to see if I have a Rachel anywhere in the material I have on the Husteds. There are only a few Husteds in Greene Co in the late 1700's early 1800's, however there was a HUGE Husted family in Dutchess, Putnam/Westchester Co area and of course, back to CT. I have Doherty's Settlers of the Beekman Patent and altho there is 33 pages of Husted/Huestis info, no specific mention of Caleb Foster and Rachel Husted in any of the Husted branches therein. Two families I'd hone in on are: David Husted and Patience Palmer. David's father David was a Capt in the 6th Dutchess Militia, Land Bounty Rights (we've been emailing about him) David Jr and his brothers Abraham, Titus and Lewis all show up in Rensselaer Co (Nassau are) but it appears they may have had a stopover in Greene Co before landing in Nassau. David s.Jr had a duaghter Rachel, b. abt 1767. She also had a sister Phebe, born abt 1764. I also see a Phebe Husted marrying Ephraim Bogardus in Coxackie RDC. No evidence of the marriage, but loads of children. 1st child baptised, I see is in 1800, b. 10.28.1799. Phebe herself is baptised into the church in 1800, and her birth date is listed as 2.13.1780. The other Husted family in Coxsackie at that time is Jonathan Husted, b. abt 1761, married in 1787. However it is suggested that he is the son of John Husted, a brother of David Sr's father David and wife Johanna Brundage. Hope I am not losing you! Anyway, Jonathan is in the area, as are a Stephen, b. abt 1776, Asher, b. between 1785-1794, Benjamin, b. abt 1775 and Ephraim b. abt 1773. No listing of sisters, although there is a liklihood there were some (I think Phebe who married Ephraim Bogardus fits in here). John was also in the 6th Dutchess Militia, Land Bounty Rights and died presumably in Fayette Co, PA in 1810. Both of these men have DAR files. I''ve also checked the NYG&BS's article on Robert Heustis, Vol. 129 - in all 4 chapters published that year. No Rachel and Caleb Foster connection . Now Caleb and Rachel Foster were married in the Bagnall Baptist Church in Dutchess Co July 7, 1785, meaning to me that it is likely that Racehl was born 1765 or before. Interestingly enough, Asher (s/o John?) and Stepehen (s/o John?) were also married inthis church. Jonathan (s/o John?) was married by Baptist minister in Coxsackie. Is this a link? Still haven't found John's will or LofA in PA yet. Sylvia Hope this helps! My interest in Greene County is modest. Strong's migrated from Durham, CT to Durham, NY (Freehold) in the 1790's. We have been searching for my GG granfather William Augustus Strong's parents. He was born in Durham, CT in 1793. By elimination of Strong's in Durham, CT, I believe it is likely that his father was John Strong, a revolutionary soldier and the son of Medad Strong. John Strong's brother Selah migrated to Durham NY and there are indications that John Strong lived there for part of his life. I have been attempting to learn more about John Strong and the possibility that he had a second wife. Ralph Strong Glen Burnie

Hi, I am researching the Groat line and would be interested in sharing information with you, but I have few proved facts to share at this point; although, I have some good leads. My gggrandmother was Lois A. Groat of Ashland. She is listed on census as daughter of John and Mercy Groat, but is too young to be their daughter. She was born in 1841 and died in 1861. She was the wife of Lauren A. Matthews. They also lived in Ashland. Do you see any connection? Mignon "Your vision will only come clear when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. John Van Buskirk: Looks like your John Van Buskirk is my 3rd cousin, five times removed. Congradulations, your web site looks great and I am sure it will be a help. Ray Smith
Carol VanBuren: I'm a direct descendant of Leah (Frayer) Rappleyea. She was married to Tunis Rappleyea of Prattsville & Lexington. I think her mother's maiden name was "Silvernail". They had 6 children (Jerome was my grandfather). As to your search for data on Coger --- I knew "South" M.Cougear (as it was spelled in Cooperstown) very well. As a boy my mother and I stopped on the street quite often to talk with him. I remember my mother telling me that he was a relative of ours, since he was the son of Harrison & Esther (Frayer) Cougear. I have much the same data that you listed in your email as to his marriage, his date of DOD & his DOB. He worked for the Clark Estate in Cooperstown for 23 years retired in 1939. He had a son Harry and a daughter (married name Kniskern). He is buried in the Hartwick Seminary cemetery (Rt 28 out of Cooperstown. His service was officiated by a Rev. Kenneth E. Hardy and Ingall's funeral home in Cooperstown.) I never met his wife. My memories of him as a young boy was that he was a likeable man, very upbeat, loved the cold weather, always wore his coat and shirt open at the neck like it was spring, had an excellent positive nature about him every time I saw him. As for my own search, I continue to look for the Date of death of my grandmother LULU (HARE) RAPPLEYEA wife of Jerome Rappleyea and where she is buried. She had a sister Frances, wife of David Rappleyea, and she died in 1929. Hope my information helps your search. B.C. Question would Dietrich be variation for Dederich? I have not personally researched this name, so I'm not familiar with any variations of it. Dietrich was my grandmother's maiden name. Thanks, Rene' -------Original Message------- From: Jim Groat Date: 09/26/05 15:36:55 To: NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: RE:[greene county] Roll Call Hi Elaine, I think we've corresponded before. Just in case, I'm descended from the Palatine Groat/Gradt and Dederich families (with all the varied spellings). Of course there are innumerable connections with the Brandow, Decker, Collier, Vosburgh, etc. By-the-way, Walpurga is a given name, not a surname. She was the wife of Johannes Groat (Gradt), the original 1710 Palatine immigrant. Her last name is unknown. Where do you fit in and do you have any specific questions? Perhaps I can be of help. Meanwhile, you might want to take a look at my web page: http://home.midsouth.rr.com/groatline/Index.html Regards, Jim Groat -----Original Message----- From: elainedecker [mailto:elainedecker@frontiernet.net] Sent: Monday, September 26, 2005 12:39 PM To: NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: RE:[greene county] Roll Call I am a DECKER. Am doing some research currently on the Husted family of Greene Co. Jonathan Husted b. abt 1760, d. 1821 in Gayhead, married Mary Smith 1787 by Baptist Minister in Coxsackie. It appears that Jonathan MAY be the son of John Huste and wife Anna/Hannah. John was a Private in the 6th Dutchess Militia, Land Bounty Rights, and died, apparently in Fayette Co in 1810. I see a John Husted in the 1787 Coxsackie Tax Rolls, the 1790 and 1800 Coxsackie censuses. Brothers to Jonathan are likely Ephraim, Asher, Benjamin, and Stephen, all of whom moved to Cortland Co and then on to Michigan. Anyone else out there working on Husteds? Sylvia
