    2. Fred Boughton
    3. Hi Joan, No connection to Eastman College--just trying to help out. No connection to a Boughton from Fla who married a Layman from Greene Co. There was a Matthew Boughton from CT who moved to Greene Co who was a cousin, I believe to my Francis Boughton (wife Esther Stowe)--who had a son (and others) named Clark who resided for awhile in Town of Durham, Greene Co. My Clark married Julia Hyde who had children who were baptized in a Greene County church--she later joined the church--see Sylvia's listings for Julia Boughton, wife of Clark and her children. Clark had a brother, Lewis who is mentioned also on the Greene Co site. His wife was Eleanor (Winne). Clark also had a sister, Mary Maria (Polly) Boughton (1792-1839) who married Joseph Whitman--they moved to Poughkeepsie (too early to go to Eastman College!). My father, also Fred W, passed away in Daytona Beach, Fl in 1978. The Clark/Julia Boughton family moved first to Herkimer, Co., NY then they all moved to Port Washington, WI in about 1846. Somehow, in 1972, I wound up in West Coxsackie, Greene Co, NY. Moved to Delmar, NY in 1975. The rest is history! Just love this web site and List Fred W Boughton (III) Las Vegas, NV ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joan Brower" <jmbb@webjogger.net> To: <NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2005 4:10 PM Subject: Re: [GREENE COUNTY] Eastman College > Hi Fred--you got any connection to Eastman college?? 1. Wilcox
    2. Jackie Towner
    3. I saw that someone on the list is researching Wilcox. I have a Sarah Wilcox who married Ephraim Towner. She was possibly born in Goshen CT. She died in Greene Co, NY in 1816. She was living with her son, Elijah at that time. I think her father was John Wilcox and mother Sarah North. Can anyone tell me more? Jackie Towner

    3. Sorry --might not get my last. (but surf Google to find it) Try this: http://newyorkoldschool.blogspot.com/ Which is: The first (and second) Capital of New York State. The first Capital of New York was (drumroll...) Kingston! In 1777 colonial legislators got together to ratify a constitution for the State of New York. Exciting! On October 16, 1777 Gen. John Vaughan and 3,000 British soldiers marched from their landing point Rondout, and burned down Kingston. After this happened, the state Capital was moved to Poughkeepsie. Poughkeepsie was a bustling town in 1788, village in 1799 and finally city in 1854 and it was the state Capital from 1777-1779. Mayor Harvey Eastman established Eastman National Business College in 1859; it closed in 1932." Fred Boughton

    3. I'm searching for any records or data on the family name HARE. What little data I have is that my grandmother was Lulu Janett Hare. Daughter of Worthington and Louisa (THOMPSON) HARE. There was another daughter - Frances. And, a son, I believe. The family was centered around Lexington, maybe West Kill, Mesquito Point, Prattsville in the 1800s. Would appreciate data on the family DEYO as it relates to crossing into the HARE or THOMPSON family line. B.C. Stevens

    3. I am the ggrandaughter of Mary Elizabeth Tompkins, wife of Lauren A. Matthews, daughter of William Tompkins and Drucilla Christian Tompkins. My grandfather was her son, William Tompkins Matthews and my father was his son, Harry Allen. I have not been able to find either William Tompkins' or his wife Drucilla Christian Tompkins' parents, so my tree stops there. I believe that they all lived in Ashland, Greene Co., NY. I know that Lauren and Mary lived there and, since William Tompkins is buried in North Settlement Cemetery, I assume that they lived there too. Lauren and Mary are buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland. I have a huge, formal portrait of Mary Elizabeth on the wall in this room and it constantly reminds me that I want to know more about her and her family. I know that she was Lauren's second wife, as his first wife died at the age of 20. They had one child and my mother told me that Mary raised her as her own. They had seven children of their own. That is the sum of what I know. If you have any information on them, I would certainly be grateful. Mignon "Your vision will only come clear when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. 2. Hi Barbara, > By deeds etc., I meant those we've paid to get for our genealogical > research. Since genealogy is the topic here, I kind of thought that was what you meant. <g> My safe deposit box is already overstuffed with current documents. And I wonder what became of items in boxes at some of the banks flooded or destroyed in Katrina? Nothing is 100% safe. How about having copies in multiple locations (with different relatives) and also scanning or photographing and, if possible, putting them on the web? Regards, Peggy

Then I burn CD-ROMs. I do the same for all the old pictures that I get. I just bought a memory stick (that plugs into your USB port, and functions as a drive) that I intend to back it up on also. The memory sticks can be carried on your keychain or around your neck. Bobbi

    3. Barbara, We use a strong-box at our bank, also keep the silver there, etc. Costs about $70 per year, well worth it for our peace of mind. - Ron W. - Be Happy - Consider the alternatives. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Craddock" <goldbabe@tampabay.rr.com> To: <NYGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2005 7:55 PM Subject: [GREENE COUNTY] question >I have a question for the list: where do you keep all your deeds, wills, >and > vital records?
